1996 challenger starting issues

I have a 1996 challenger it has been running fine all week but now when I go to start it it just makes a “thunk” noise , although when I take the spark plugs out it will role over. I have already replaced the battery and wondering what to do next .

How's the battery?

But it sounds like the starter is tired. If it's a good factory starter... just take it off, clean it, and replace the brushes. If it's an aftermarket starter... just replace it.

New battery , starter is original do you know of anyway to test it to ensure it’s still good ?
