 wife just bought this craft,we have had jet skis but never had to do any serious work on them. my question is the pervious owner of the challenger said the impeller and wear ring needed replacement due to a cavation problem.I'm a heavy truck mechanic and I'm sure I could do this repair with some expert direction from members of this forum..please help me so I can get this craft going to get wife and aldult childs off my tired back.
thank you in advance

do a search, very easy the pump comes off the back with the removal of the 4 bolts that attach it to the hull, while your at it change the jet pump oil.
sorry if not a super write up but there is about 10 on these threads.

wear ring change

I had this same question and I asked a seadoo dealer, he said to just cut the old one out (careful to not cut too deep). then take the wear ring housing (once old one is cut out) and put it in the freezer (yupp the freezer) once it is froze then the new wear ring should slide in much quicker.

Freezer?..........

I don't know where the freezer idea came from, but in this case, its' not necessary. The manual just says to apply some soapy water on it and after laying it on the housins, just tap it down with a block of wood across it, with a hammer..........

That's what I did, really simple..................good luck!

I put mine in the freezer as well. I didn't freeze it though. I put it in there while I took my old one off maybe 20-30min. It slide right in, no probs, and no whacking and yelling.

O.K........

Well O.K., if it worked for you, maybe it's something that will benefit others. I replaced mine last year and with Dawn dishwashing liquid, it slid right into place, with a gentle tap from a small hammer and a piece of 2x4.........but if you can shrink it a bit from popping it into the freezer, then that may be a better idea...........

thanks for the replies, got a manuel looked at the exploded parts views and the job went pretty smooth. was real scared cutting wear ring out but it worked out fine. I had no problem installing wear ring not frozen, pushed in tapped a couple times and good to go....thanks steveb.
