So i have a 1995 spx, it has the 657 motor, got it from a guy not running, rebuilt the carbs and got it fired up, redid the fuel system, made sure that i had no starvation issues from the fuel tank, runs and revs like a dream out of water, went to test on the water, and as soon as it his the water it bogs and wont rev. Take it out of water, revs perfect. I has the choke plates removed and a primer kit installed, so i took a rag and set it over the spark arrestor to see if it was running lean, sure enough i can get it to rev that way, but as soon as i move the rag, it instantly falls on its face again. I may have an air leak somewhere, but the main question here is, I know everyone says you cant use a 5 wire stator system on something with a 4 wire Mpem. However, i noticed that someone has cut the white wire, coming from my 5 wire stator, and its not hooked up, but the bike still starts and revs out of water. Im confused because people in other threads say you can use a 5 wire stator in a 4 wire system. But mine runs. Could that be causing my issues, i understand the 5 wire was for a dual coil setup, and the 4 wire was for a single, could i be having lack of spark causing this issue?

This issue doesn't sound like a stator.

Have you checked the compression?

You need to have the air box on as well. If it's set at factory carb sittings not having the air box on can throw the tune off.
