1995 Spi Seadoo Fuel Problem / Help Please

I have a couple of 1995 SPI seadoo jet skis with not many hours. They both ran great, until 1 day one went from running great to sluggish. I put a new gas filter in, that is just under the dash or hood. I put a new oil filter and plugs in also. It idles great, and I can rev it up good also. I get on it, and floor the gas, and it take off great, and runs fantastic for about 3 to 4 secounds, and then goes into the sluggish mode. I let go of the throdle for about 3 seconds, and floor it again, and it does the same thing. Runs fantastic for 3 to 4 seconds and go to sluggish.

I have been hearing about the gray fuel lines, and do not know if I have those or not, because the skis are not here right now. I know they are the original lines that came with the machines. Could this be my whole problem? Also, if they are gray, do I have to clean out the gas tank & baffle, or just the carbs? Does the SPI's have another fuel filer somewhere. Like in the carb.?

2) Both machines gas guages broke the first year. Is their a cheap fix for this, that will last, or are they known to keep breaking?

I think you know the answer. (You may have gotten a bad batch of gas, if both skis went down at the same time)

IF it has gray fuel lines, change them, clean ALL filters from bottom of fuel baffle, to water trap, then clean the fuel select valve, and the in carb filters.

Put new fuel lines on, and you are good to go.

REally, it is important to get rid of the gray lines, because they will CONTINUALLY add glue to the gas, and eventually, you are going to get lean conditions, but it will still run ok. This is the point where you can pop a ring, or score a cylinder.

Hey kazseadoo, welcome to the forum. These gray lines are notorious for clogging up inside the lines as well as the filters.

Do all the cleaning like Nate said.

These fuel baffles are going out all the time. There is a way to fix them, but requires some tedious work. Mine went out this summer and got one off ebay for $45 and it works fine. Here's the link for the fuel baffle repair.

PS Can the fuel baffle be taken out without pulling the tank and emptying the fuel? AND can I just use regular auto fuel line for the change over?

Can I get to the carb filters without pulling the carb?

Fuel line...?

Yes, you can use standard fuel line. I think it was 1/4". I would cut a small piece of what you have and take with you to an auto supply store and give it to the guy at the desk and tell him you need ? feet of it. Don't let him sell you the more expensive "injector" type line.

I don't know your layout on the ski and don't know if you'll need to remove anything to get to your fuel baffle. On my boat, I have to remove the ski pylon, that's it. The PWC is different in design. So, a PWC owner will have to chime in here.:cheers:

On mine, you pull the steering bolts off, and remove the hoses from the top of the fuel baffle, and then with some help, you pull the baffle UP out of the tank, while pushing down on the tank, and there is BARELY enough clearance to remove it.

Each one of these models is different. I don't know about yours.

Sometimes simple tasks become hard, and hard ones simple, when you talk boats.
