I purchased a 1995 Speedster last year... My Mechanic friend rebuilt the port engine last year.... Rebuilt the bottom end , pumps and new Solas props and shrouds this year.... I have had it out on the lake 3 times and it does the same thing , it runs for 10mins., and the port engine quits..... I ran it in the driveway on the hose for an hour off and on it never quit once.....There was no hesitation when I had it out on the water throttle response was just great....I don't get it....

I can restart it once it quits , but it won't go past 1,500 rpm. .... The boat is in excellent shape , I have cleaned it all up ,added Hydro-Turf , that is a nice touch.... I am 64 yrs. young and just loved the ride , speed and handling of the craft....I just wish I knew what was wrong with it , and how to fix it !! I'll tell you one thing she sure turns some heads !!

Thanking you all in advance for any and all your help !! Have a Super day !!

Hey Tony ,
The buzzer works , if it is the same buzzer that beeps when its not in neutral....

I had that same motor running in the driveway , on a hose , for almost an hour and the water coming out of it was barely lukewarm varying between 2,500 - 3,500 rpms.... I checked it every 5 mins. to make sure it wasn't overheating.... Is it possible that it could be the over-heat sending unit on the top of the motor , is malfunctioning.... I checked the fuel filters there was hardly any dirt in them ( they were 2"X1" nylon screens )..... I brought it home about a month ago and I haven't been able to enjoy it on the water after 3 X's of trying....
( frustrating )....

Thanx for your reply Tony , I truly appreciate it !!

I would check the little filters in your carbs... I know on my GTX I had a similar problem like this and it was caused by the little filters located in my carb.. Clean and rebuild your carbs as necessary so you can eliminate this as your problem!!!

Replace the fuel selector valve.

I will have a look at the manual and see where these filters are located.... Although I tinker with things all the time , I am not sure that I have the knowledge to take apart the carbs.... I did when I was younger , I rebuilt car carbs a few times.... I was wondering if the vent hoses could be blocked...
Perhaps that could be the reason it runs so good for 10 mins then Quits , restarts and only goes up to 1,500 rpms... I am throwing possibilities out there hoping someone might remember something....
Possibly an air lock or something similar , there is a lot of black rubber fuel hose in these Speedsters...

Thanx so much for your help , I truly appreciate it !!

Looks like you have two of them. Also a good thing to check is the O ring on the fuel filter/water separators.

Hey Thanx jhjessie

That file is a much better breakdown than my manual....O.K. I forgot about the switches the switch on that engine was a little bit turned off.... I am still new to the boat .... I already cleaned the FF/WS and oiled the O-rings , the filters weren't to dirty at all.... I am going to check a few more things later this afternoon , including the switches and fuel lines.... I know now that those fuel hoses going to the front of the boat are not vent hoses , but instead they are going to the fuel shut off switches , they look hard to access.... Perhaps there is an easy way to see if there is any blockage in the fuel hoses.... My friend and I are going to take it to the lake again tomorrow for another trial run.... I will check the post again later on !!

I Thank You so much for keeping an eye on my post and coming up with great ideas to help me solve this problem....

Hey jhjesse ,

I just pulled the spark plugs it looks like the engine blew again....
There is grey all over the plug I held my finger on the front spark plug
hole and there is not enough compression to blow my finger off , the rear
is fine.... I talked to my friend and he told me that was the same cylinder that
blew the last time.... If anyone has an idea of what would cause it to overheat
like that please post....
The last time I had it out was over a week ago....
I just joined the forum this week !!

That engine ran a total of maybe 40 mins. on the water 3X...

Thanx tons jhjesse and all the others that tried to help me !!
