I have a 1995 speedester and the left reverse cable casing is broken. I looked at the maintenance manual and it was sketchy on how to remove the half rings or what ever they are from the rear bulkhead. The manual reads "From inside, slacken lock nut. From outside of hull, pull cable to allow haft rings removal" Looking at the parts breakdown, I dont see a nut on the drawing. Is there a special tool required anywhere. Are there parts that needs to be replaced or will break when this is attempted. I order the cable yesterday and heading to the lake in a week or so..... If I need additional piece parts, I should order them ASAP.

As these parts are getting harder to find, I don't want to mess up this installation.

Thanks in advance for any advise provided.

Well I took out the cable.... as the manual indicates it comes out the back. One of the things you will need to do is get new rubber boots as they don't all come with the new cable, specifically those outside the bull. The one in the split rings was crushed and I had to order that special a opted to replace the rubber boots on the cable also... no use doing this twice. Hope this helps others

Wow... I am having the same issue. How did you get the nut on the inside of the transome out. Mine was covered in silicone. I need a midget (no offense if there are any midget members) with small hands to get that nut off. I keep turning the cable when I eventually get a wrench on the nut and there is not really enough room to get a clamp in to hold it.

Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

Yes getting the silicon off was a problem.... I just made sure all of it was off the threads before I started turning the nut...Since the cable was no good, I put a vice grip on it to help hold it. I'm six foot, big belly and an old guy..... It was fun..... know what I mean.

sounds like me replacing the exhaust gasket. 8 bolts all need to be held from the back side...
It is much easier with two, but for me my Westie wasn't much help.

I'm replacing it again (with the correct part this time) later in the week, and will do the bilge drain plug gaskets too if I can convince myself that its worth it.

Can you buy that silicon stuff anywhere to replace it afterwards? Is it necessary?

It would keep any leaks out of the hull of the seadoo. You could buy it in any Home Depot or Lowe's store...or any hardware store for that matter. Use pure silicon not water based stuff.
