Hello,

Has anyone removed the ride shoe from a 95 speedster? I have tried to fix my cavitaiton issues by replacing drive line seals, new stock impellers, Oem Wear rings, resealing the pump and new neoprene seal. All to no avail. I think my only other option now is the ride shoe.

I think the 95 is somewhat of a odd ball when it comes to the shoe. It has a single intage grate, where future models had one for each pump.

I have the shop manual and it tells how to remove the shoe for a 95 sportster but says:

Speedster only
This models requires a special procedure for ride shoe removal. Refer to your service department for information.

not much help huh?

I am looking for information on doing this before I attempt it. If I break the shoe taking it off, I will likely never find one to replace it.

ideas?

Thanks in advance,
Tyson

Nope, and doesn't sound fun, but I'd start with removing all the screws, pumps, cutting all the edges where you can see the sealant and slowly prying the shoe down.

On a normal shoe I pry down with a small screw driver/flat blade, or scraper, and leave it stuck in there, then move down a few inches and repeat and repeat, then start using larger and larger objects. You want to take it slow so you don't break it... :)

You could try putting sealant all around the outside of the shoe, and on the inside intake where ever there's a seam, maybe a little easier..

I've never tried on a 95, and yes... it's a strange beast because of the single intake.

Hopefully, Seadooya, or Chester will chime in.

any update on this thread or any insight? I have a customer with one that cavitates horribly. Prob going to take the pumps off and reseal all the seams.

Is this pretty normal on these 95s?

Has anyone done this? Any updates on these boats? Have they been fixed??? Is sealing around the shoe the answer???

Hi, new to the forum but see you in lots of different threads and you always seem knowledgeable. I have a 95 Speedster that has been sitting for a few years. I am an aircraft mechanic by trade and have had many pwc over the years. I replaced the impellers (stock rebuilt) and wear rings, also did impeller bearings and the cone kit to remove the endplay. Now neither motor has any supply water off the jets ? However it will move and do near 50mph, didn't push it since no cooling. Any thoughts ? Sucking air around ride shoe or around dirveshafts possibly? That's all I see left that it could be but wouldn't it cavitate and not move then ? Just to clarify all hoses have no blockage and are properly hooked up. However that shouldn't matter bc going right to the thru hull water inlet gives no or very little supply, even while underway ? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The hole is plugged? Should be a steady stream of water when the boat is in the water running. The ride shoe, seals, etc, are for cavatation which is when the boat doesn't have any get and go.

Thanks for the reply. They're both free and clear , I back flushed them with the garden hose, water pours out the 3 (3/16") holes inside the impeller housings. This model only has one of the 1/2" plastic tubes coming off the impeller housing and going thru the hull. Removed the hose at the hull and hooked bulk hose to the fitting just inside the hull, no water on one side and just a little spit spit on the other. Made that test numerous ways, even while underway at 30mph. How can I have the exact problem on both sides. I'm thinking its getting air and it's rising to the top and somehow screwing with the flow into those 3 holes. I am really lost here. Contemplating flooding the bilge so the driveshaft seals are under water and trying that. Then I know it couldn't be sucking air from there at least.

Hi, Going back to the original topic, does someone have the "special procedure" for the 95 Speedster to remove the ride shoe?
(per the manual: This models requires a special procedure for ride shoe removal.)
Thank you, Ken

Ken, Yes I see the same thing in the manual. I tried but even having up on a car lift and using heat guns and multiple people it wasn't budging. I just smeared the edeges up and called it a day. Let us know if you do get it off.
