I just purchased a 1995 speedster for a first boat and am trying to work through some issues hopefully you guys can help me with...
#1 passanger side cup will not move on its own.. if I put it in neutral or reverse I can move it down by hand but once I put it back to forward it freezes open. What do I need to replace?

#2 what type of spark plug do you guys recommend?

#3 what general main. Tips do you guys have?

1) Are you talking about the reverse bucket? If you are... there is a clip that locks it open. the release is either broke or warn.

2) BR8ES, gaped at 0.022"

3) Keep your driveshaft seal packs greased, and the fuel tank full.

Dr. Honda,
I think is the reverse cable. The shifter can lift it from reverse to forward but once in forward it won't move to neutral or reverse. I noticed inside the haul the cable has tons of silicone coated all over the cable and you can not even see the nut on the cable by the back of the haul. Luckily I found a cable but since they are 160 I hate to spend it if it doesn't need it. Would pictures help?

If you are referring to the cable at the shifter end then maybe you can leave it in forward and clean as much silicone off the cable as possible. maybe try some acetone or nail polish remover and then grease the crap out of it. Also, check the tension on the shifter lever while you're in there. The tension screw is on the port side at the top of the assembly (flat head). If the silicone has gotten down inside the cable you're probably screwed.

If you are referring to where the cable comes through the transom (back of the hull) you're probably looking at a new cable.
