Hi,
Just a quick question. I bought this 1995 speedster and the batteries were out of it. The cables aren't marked. Does it matter which cables go to which battery? If so how can you tell which goes where?

YESSSSS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you hook it up backwards... you will roast an expensive, and VERY hard to find computer.

The wire going to the starter solenoid will be the positive wire, and the wire going to the engine block is the negative.

I think he's asking if the negatives and positives can be mismatched with the opposite engine. For example, starboard ground with port positive. OP, unfortunately I don't know the answer, but I hope I clarified your concern a little. My advice though, would be to dump the two small batteries and pick up a large group 24 marine starting battery, then you can just throw all the blacks on the neg and red on pos and be done with it. http://www.seadoosource.com/battconversion.html

Yes, MLars is right. I was asking if I hooked up the "starboard positive" and the "port negative" to the same battery, if that's even possible. I'm guessing since I've seen people do the conversion and just hook both + and - to the same battery that it doesn't really matter on the two, but I'm not a boat expert and hope someone knows. I believe the ground are just to metal, and obviously the positives would each go to a starter, but if it's just a universal ground, and assuming you don't care which battery starts which engine, I would think that it doesn't matter. I'm using car logic on this though.

It doesn't mater just as long as you only hook one negative wire to a battery and only one positive wire to one battery. The only thing you have to figure out is which battery is for what engine. The propose of this is just that you need to know what battery you might need to charge, change or replace if bad. Note both negative are tie together BUT the POSITIVE cables ARE NOT!!!!. if YOU do you may have MEM problems.
