HI, I have a 1995 Seadoo Xp that I recently just bought used. I ran it for about 10 minutes then i noticed like a soft poppin sound under the seat. We adjusted the carbs and everything we could think of. It will start and run out of the water, but as soon as hits water it will shut off. When i try to start it in the water, it will sometimes backfire. Both plugs have spark and just put brand new ones in. Does anyone have a clue what could be wrong? Also, the gas guage was working when i first got it. When i filled up the tank, the light never came off. Anyone know what happend? Magnets? Thanks.

Backfiring. This sounds a little like the timing of the engine is off. Either that or you have way too much fuel during fire.

Was the engine rebuilt recently by the previous owner? What if any mods have been made to the XP?

The fuel gauge issue is probably due to one of several problems you can diagnose with this thread->http://www.seadooforum.com/showthread.php?t=5826

the backifiring im not really worried about because it only does it when i give it a lot of throttle to start it. My main concern is how the xp dosnt run in the water, but out it will run perfect. Do you have any ideas?

95 seadoo xp runs but dosnt.. why?

HI, I have a 1995 Seadoo Xp that I recently just bought used. The ski has a brand new engine. I ran it for about 10 minutes then i noticed like a soft poppin sound under the seat. We adjusted the carbs and everything we could think of. It will start and run out of the water, but as soon as hits water it will shut off. Both plugs have spark and just put brand new ones in. Does anyone have a clue what could be wrong? I was thinking that it could be the electrical box got wet when i was cleaning it?? anyone know?

I had a similiar problem with my 97 spx last summer and I couldn't understand why it was firing up out of the water but in the water it was giving me issues and either wouldn't start or would die off immediately. After going at it for an hour (and recharging the battery 4-5 times) she finally cranked over and I never have had the problem since.

It is possible that you got it wet while washing it down. I would open the electricl boxes and wipe out any water that might be inside. Does the seadoo have the old gray fuel lines on it still? it could be a problem that teh carbs need cleaning and the lines need replacing. It sounds like you need to remove the carburetors and clean them. If you're careful and don't tear or damage the diaphragms you won't need to buy a rebuild kit. Pay attention to the internal filters too. If you have gray fuel lines you need to replace them with black fuel lines available from auto parts stores like Auto Zone. Measure the length you need and bring a sample with you so you get the correct size. Replace one at a time so you don’t get them mixed up. If you need clamps replace them too. Use small stainless steel clamps also from the auto parts store.

Keep us posted.
