Bought this used a few years ago and ran fine for 2-3 years, now it's running but has a hard time getting up to speed especially after slowing down. Replaced the gas filter and plugs but no help. Holding the throttle down acts and sounds like it wants to go fast but only putts along. Any help is appreciated for when I get back up there.

For reference, what should it look like and what should the clearance between them be?

Download your service manual and read the section on the jet pump. Generally the clearance between the impeller and wear ring should be no more than 1 mm. The wear ring should be relatively smooth and not have any deep gouge marks or missing sections. The impeller should not have any serious dents and the blade edges should be straight and undamaged.
