1995 GTX - Gauges wont work

Hello everybody!

Just took out the jetski out onto the lake after installing a new MicroTouch rev limiter. The seadoo ran great except for the gas gauge flashing to full and all the lights on the gauge flashing only when I gave full throttle. After about 15 minutes of driving it, the problem seems to go away. Another fifteen minutes of riding and both the speedometer and the gas gauge stop working altogether. Still works fine apart from that as well.

Back at the house I check out all the wires to and from the electronics box and to the gauges, nothing fishy as far as I can tell. I even disconnect the MicroTouch rev limiter from the MPEM and still the same problem. The GTX starts up and runs great, only the gauges aren't doing anything.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hi

you have a wiring problem, I would go back and do a real good exam of your wiring. A little corrosion can casue big problems a wire can still corrode even in its sheilding. or in the connection to the gagues. you can take an amp or oms tester to see how good the conduction is. you might just want to cut wires back an inch put new conectors on, you could also try some conduction jelly at connections. but for all gauges not to work right has to be wiring. go spend some time on it.

I dont beleave it will be afuse, if it was a fuse it would not work at all, as a blown fuse would not lit any power to the gauges

quoted...Another fifteen minutes of riding and both the speedometer and the gas gauge stop working altogether.
So....did they stop work'n altogether, or off/on?

this is immediatly after you installed a rev limiter? worked fine before? general rule of thumb; if you fix something and something else goes wrong-you just did it! go back over your work and check everything. sounds like a loose connection. NEVER think-"i just fixed that so it has to be something else." the best and most experienced wrench in the world makes mistakes. in fact the price of mechanics is so high because they are charging you for the do-over ahead of time.

I replaced the fuses and I even tried disconnecting the new rev limiter just to see if it was the problem, but no dice.

But at the end of the day, none of the gauges currently work, and the jetski runs perfectly normal besides that.

Rev limiter?

From what I'm reading, you put on an after market "rev limiter". I'm not super familar with this product but did you remove your MPEM to make this installation. From what I"ve read, it appears so.

I think your problem may be in your aftermarket product. Without knowing all about it, I do know that your mpem is designed to not only limit your engine rpm and control your ignition, it also has a delay timer built in that allows you to have 33 seconds of power, to use your gages, then will shut back off unless you start the engine.

So, if you've made this change and this new module doesn't have the same characteristics as your original, this is likely your problem.

Great work guys on helping this member out with his problem. By reading your replies to him, I was able to deduce that his problem is probably in his aftermarket installation. Thanks for all your help with his issue................!
