Appreciate any help from the forum. I have a 1995 Challenger with a single 787 Rotax. the boat is "popping" (could it be backfiring??) at idle and only has about 50% power at full throttle. Any ideas? Thanks!

Challenger...?

If you have a Challenger, it's not a 1995, the first year the Challenger was made was 1996. So, I will assume it is a 96 model.

You say popping? You mean like backfiring? And only 50% power at full throttle.

You have an older boat. How much maintenance have you done on this boat? Have the RAVE's ever been cleaned? Has the carbs ever been cleaned? Have you checked and changed the inline fuel strainer. Also, sounds like the possibility that you may have some water in your tank.

Your description isn't to extensive. We need to know more about what's going on. How much you've done to it. How long it's been "popping"...etc...

thanks for the response - I really appreciate it....it is a 1996 not a 1995.

I just bought the boat a month or so ago - so I am not sure what kind of maintenance was done on the boat prior to my ownership. The misfiring and loss of power started last week. Prior to that it would go full power - about 45 MPH.

I believe the popping is a misfire or backfire. There is a good bit of air that comes out of the exhaust when this occurs. It backfires about every 5 seconds at idle. at accelleration it increases to about every second and then when at "full power" it stops.

I did change plugs when I bought the boat and changed them again after the misfiring. The plugs were pretty fouled. There does seem to be air bubbles in the gas lines - not sure if this is normal or not.

Sorry I cant be more helpful with a description of the issue.
