Okay so here it goes. I have a friend, and his family, that are very nice and let me come stay at their cottage and ride pretty much anytime I want. In return I help out any way I can, yardwork, fixing things ETC. My contribution this year is fixing their 94 xp.
2 Years ago we were having problems where you would have to repeatedly push the start button over and over until eventually it would work. It was almost like the button was going out? It was annoying but we just left it because eventually it would work every time.
Last season came around and we dropped in the battery and after a long amount of cranking on shore we got it going. We just ran for a bit, and didnt get all the fogging oil burnt off. We then dropped it in the lake and the battery gave up on us as it was old and we never got it started again. We had other skis, and sadly I owned a Polaris Sl900 at the time, that had more problems than you can imagine, so I spent my summer dealing with that piece. The xp was sat and left alone, which brings us to yesterday.
Wasnt sure what to expect, but we dropped in a good battery. Start button wouldnt make anything happen. I opened the ebox and jumped the start solenoid. Got one big crank from the starter and it was almost like it was binding up. Tried repetedly and same thing.
Took the plugs out, and tried to turn the motor by hand. It got 90 percent around and stops. It gos 90 percent the oposite direction as well. Its right when the mag piston gets to the top of cylinder where it wont turn any farther. We sprayed some penetrating oil down the cylinders to see if they had rusted up and still couldnt turn any farther. I looked inside the cylinders as well and everything looks good no scoring or rust. Only thing that I forgot to do was try jumping the solenoid with the plugs out to see if it could turn the motor....
Any thoughts here? I know its alot
FYI the battery is brand new so we can at least illiminate that .
