My 1994 XP has had it's wear ring replaced and replaced the fuel lines as well myself, but it still can't go full throttle without bogging. I think rebuilding the carbs is all I have to do left. I am not very experienced in mechanics, but should I try to rebuild the carbs myself or pay a professional. Also, if i were to rebuild them myself, would I need Mikuni rebuild kits or would any do the job.

Pull the carbs,,,see what springs you have,,so when you order your new kit you will have proper popoff,( double check online first),,,,,the kit usually comes with the soft silver 65 gm springs.,the 95 gm silver springs are wound opposite (to the left),,of the 65 gm springs..

ALL ORIGINAL MIKUNI PARTS ONLY!!!

OSD marine makes the kit you need. I just rebuilt my 94 XP carbs using their kit. They give you options with the kit, a base line kit then add "extras" if you want them. Just make sure you get the needle and seat (two of them) which I believe are in the base kit already. I ordered the springs as well, a couple different tensions to have some adjustment ability.

Personal experience here. I did a full rebuild of my 94 xp a couple years ago and found an improvement in the performance when I increased the pop off pressure from the 18ish of stock up to 25ish. It was too sluggish on the low end and this helped improve things without any adverse side effects. Also if you are running the stock impeller find one that closer matches the 95 spx (14/21?).

The 94 XP was sluggish out of the crate. Look at the specs between it and the 95 SPX and there are some significant changes that changed how the machine performed.

The finish pitch on the impeller was something like 25 or 26, too tall. I have had really good luck with a 271000454 14/21 out of a 95 GTX
