1993 XP replaced with single carburetor

Just picked up a 1993 XP and someone decided it was a great idea to make it into a single carb ski.

It appears that it’s a PTO carb though and not just a single mag carb. It does crank over and sounds like it wants to start…

Based off the pics and my description, what in gods name is going on here? Why would someone do this!?!?

Just pulled the carb, it is a 38 mm. Appears to be the PTO carb as it doesn’t have the fuel pump on it lol. Compression was reading 145 in cylinder one and 140 in cylinder two. Am I right about this?

Also looks like the oil pump is gone but oil line still feeds beneath there I believe? Does this mean mixed gas?

With no fuel pump it isn't going to run.

Also that paper inline fuel filter is a bad idea.
