:banghead: Hey everyone, I'm new to workin on skis. I work on car engines generally and now I took on a project to fix my sisters ski so she can sell it. Heres the problem. Engine revs and starts just fine but when giving it gas it doesn't go! Why? I've been doing research and found different ideas of what it might be. Tell me what you know or to the best of your knowledge!!! I checked the flywheel at the front of the engine, teeth look fine. Took apart the housing where the rear impeller is, or whatever its called, that looked fine too, not broken or chipped etc. What next? Drive shaft? What am I looking for exactly??? OH, and the AFT boot was broken off the drive shaft, got all tore up...what could that mean? I think thats the source, but don't know what I'm looking for exactly. HELP!!!

Wearing ring........

If your engine is revving up to rpm and your just sitting there, it's your wearing ring clearance shot. You can use the search engine with the key word "wearing ring" and come up with a million threads, even ones to measure the clearance, which is suppose to be less than .40" and how to replace it.

The impeller is a compressor and pump........kinda like a jet motor. The low pressure side (or water inlet) allows the impeller to pick up water, compress it into a nozzle to create low volume, high pressure at the nozzle.

If the clearance between the impeller and wearing ring is to great, that water being compressed will circulate out of the pressure side of the nozzle, around the edge of the blades and back into the low pressure side again........
