1989 SeaDoo SP start problems

Wonder if anyone has any ideas on this one. I have a 89 Seadoo SP. I have brought it to the dealer twice for repair on a no start / hard start condition. They cleared a clogged line and cleaned the carbs. When the unit is running, it works great. The problem is with the starting, I have to pump the throttle and crank in order to get it started. This can go on from 3 to 15 seconds or longer before it will start. The dealer seems stumped. Help?

Welcome to the forum!

Check your spark and make sure your plugs look good. When is the last time you changed them? If it isn't a fuel issue, it is a spark issue.

sp starting problems

hello gerarld i'm a new member, i don't know if youv'e fixed you problem with starting your sp,as i have the same model i had the same problem starting it up, i changed the carby(new one) put a primer kit on it, the problem was still there. i had to either turn the starter and pump it many times, tilt it to the right and even lift the back of the ski so i could start it up.Then i started reading the service manual which stated that the fuel system works under pressure that their shouldn't be any air leaks from anywere. I checked all the fuel system, hoses, clamps pick up system etc, all ok apart from one thing the fuel filler base where the fuel cap screws on had a slight crack and was leaking air, i changed it and guess what no more starting problems, i don't even need to prime the carby when she's cold, she just starts. it took me 2 months to find it. good luck

i have a problem

i have a 1989 seadoo 580 and it will not start and every thing seems good when i try to start it it only pops like 3 times and will not even think about it if you put your hand on the gas and it seems like it is getting too much gas because it keeps fouling the plugs im a mechanic and i am stumped it just dont make sense and it is not blown up the idits before me hade the fuel and fuel pump lines backwards and i got all of the gas out of it and corrected them can some one give me a clue????
