will this starter fit an 89 and a 90 587 cc yellow engine? I am looking for two new ones but don't want to pay nearly $300.00 for each one off of the seadoo part shop.

I figure seadoo had somebody make a bunch of starters for them so I should be able to get one from a cheaper source. I hope I didn't violate any forum rules I am just having problems finding this particular starter so I am looking for one that will work.

Starter...?

The ebayer is a power seller with a great reputation. I'd send him a request to see what he thinks. From first glance in the manual, they look identical. But, looking up the part numbers, they don't match.

What kind of condition are your starters in? Ninety percent of the time, a non working starter is because the brushes are worn out (held in contact to the stator by springs). These small electrical contacts are made of carbon and wear like a grinding wheel, over a long period of time.

The Seadoowarehouse sells brush rebuild kits for your starters for about $12 bucks. So, we may even have a cheaper deal than him.

If you take the starter apart and it's clean, pull the brush assembly from the back and see how much carbon is left. If the starters are being replaced because of the bearings or from flooding, you might want to check out his deal.

i found a way to see if the starter is shot take a small battery charger to the starter hook the negitive to the starter body and take to positive lead and attach to the positive battery charger cable next turn on the starter and see if it spins if not their shot. I would first check out to find a part number for the starter then go to seadoowarehouse or your next source for starters i got my last one off ebay. it was like $50 but i have the 787.

Yes, that starter will fit. It is the correct replacement part. The old part number changes up to 278-000-316. As you can see in the picture, that starter seals with an o-ring while yours has a gasket. It will still work.
