Hi im wondering which way to flip my kawasaki jet ski 550 if i were to flip it in the water. I was also wondering where the oil is on that and how to change it. Thanks everyone!

Welcome to the forum.

Where are you in Michigan?

Sorry, but I can't answer your question, but some one else will chime in soon.

Oil?? It's premix.

Also... the 550 doesn't have a kill tether... so it doesn't mater. It should still be running when you fall off.

Dr. Honda is right, the oil is pre-mix in the gas. The rule of thumb for any PWC that ends up upside down, turn it back over in the direction that will bring the carbs up over the engine, not under it. so in your case with the 550, turn it clockwise when looking from the back.

Nope... there isn't any gear box. The engine spins the impeller directly. Also... it's been a long time since I fondled a JS550... but the pump should be packed with grease... so it doesn't need changed like our SeaDoo's.

The 550SX has rear exhaust, a smaller driveshaft, a rubber mounted through hull bearing, molded hard rubber gunwale pads, a different pump and a different type of impeller. The 1990 550SX still came with a piston port motor and a 44mm Mikuni carb. The 1991 and later came with a reed motor and a 38mm Keihin carb.

Hey Chester i got a quick q, what is the difference from the '90sx non reed motor to the '91 reed motor? Thanks

Reed motor is the one to have. More power and longer life in my opinion. The rear exhaust is the sh#$.

The non reed motor uses piston port timing to open and close the intake ports.

Oh I see, is a reed motor favorable to the non reed? I am a recent Kawasaki noob with a 91 550sx and Im just learning about them, thanks again:thumbsup:

Yes, the reed motor is preferred. If you want to put a pipe on it, I have a Mariner/Factory Pipe for it.

The 550sx got a coffmans half pipe already installed, I was wondering also if 93premix will harm the engine? It's mostly stock, just rebuilt. Thanks
