100 HR. SuperCharger Rebuild..

People with the new models of challengers, speester, ect. Has anyone had to get the super charger rebuilt at 100hours? Or has anyone had supercharger failures at or around that 100 hour rate? I have a 2010 challenger 180 and i'm just curious will i have to drop and extra $1,000 to rebuild my super charger in a few more hours. I think i have like 55-60hours on mine now.. I know this was common on the older ones or so i read but haven't seen anything on the new ones..
 
Seadoo recommends that you have the super charger rebuilt every 100 hours. There is a guy named Jerry at webite ************** that will rebuild your super charger for $75.00 plus shipping to him and back. The parts cost about $380.00 . You can buy them from him or here.
 
I just got done rebuilding mine an hour ago. i can believe someone would charge $75 for an hour or less worth of work. send me the parts and the charger and id do it for you for $45 plus return ship. its a piece of cake. haha
 
i guess my supercharger just slipped at 162 hours on my 255 hp 08 speedster 150. Thats pretty impressive for the way i drive...
 
This guy has done hundreds of these rebuilds. He warranties his work. For an extra $30 you get piece of mind.
 
May seem like a dumb question, but is there any way to tell if the supercharges have been rebuilt without actually tearing them down? I have recently bought a 2005 Speedster and am unsure of its maintenance history.
 
I would have it rebuilt after this summer . Are you sure it is a supercharged boat and before 2008 the washers in the supercharger were ceramic,very bad.
 
I honestly can't remember if mine is super chaged or not. I have a 2010 sea doo challenger 180 with 215hp. I hope it isn't so i don't have to get the supercharger rebuilt. Anybody have any idea if this model is super chargerd. I am about 95% sure mine has the metal washers. I remember asking the deal about that before buying it..

I don't see what there is to warrenty. Every part gets replaced with the rebuild kit except the impellar and the cases. Unless you don't know how to put a seal in straight I don't think you could screw it up.
 
How the heck can they justify charges almost $300 for the Supercharger rebuild kit, it only looks like a few washers etc????? How easy are the Superchargers to take off the engine, as think I will get them sent off to be redone sooner rather than later.
 
I hear you--it's just a handful of small parts. There's some claim that these are "super special" washers that are difficult and/or time-consuming to make. I think I read on this or another forum about 6 minutes each on a CNC machine or something like that. I'd be real curious to see how long some off-the-shelf hardened washers would last--not not so curious as to use my boat as a test mule. I suspect a large part of the pricing is supply and demand and profit multipliers typical of cars/boats/etc.: manufacturer doubles the price to Sea-Doo who doubles the price to the dealer, who doubles the price to us.
 
I have a 2009 180SE and there is nothing in the owners maunual calling for a SC rebuild at 100 hours. I have to believe BRP expects these newer ones to go well beyond 100 hours. Why else would they remove the 100 hr rebuild requirement? I have the 5 year warranty so plan on running it until the 5 years are up, then maybe rebuild the SC just in case. If the SC doesn't work for any reason, it will be obvious, however I understand the concern is that broken parts/washers will fly into the engine causing major damage (which will also be obvious).
 
You are completely correct. I think we've all fallen victim to group think. The jet skis have an approximate 100-hour rebuild. The dash will tell you when you have to get it done within five hours. On the boats, the recommendation is to have the supercharger checked after 2 years or 200 hours. And that's just an inspection (with possible service, I suppose). It sounds like 200 hours for boats is the more correct expectation. When I get near 200 hours (hopefully that will happen around the end of the season), I'll just pull mine off and send it to someone and have them do it for $75. With ~$300 for parts, that's about $400 to have it done. I can live with $400 every 200 hours.

Oh, I forgot: I had mine done when I got the boat at ~50 hours (I wanted to make sure it didn't have the ceramic washers, and negotiated that service into the purchase). So I guess I'll be waiting until about 250 hours. :)
 
This supercharger rebuild every 100 hours sure is a poor design by Seadoo. Have you ever heard of such a thing for an automobile engine? If that was the case no one would buy the car. It is a shame and a rip off by Seadoo. They should be able to do better.
 
I agree somewhat. 100 hours does seem a bit excessive, even for a jet ski. Fortunately, for the boats it's not that often. In the context of autos, this would be inexcusable. But look at other maintenance on this and other boats. Changing the oil every 100 hours or once a year? That's about like every 1,500 or 2,000 miles in autoland.

On the other hand, look at the maintenance schedule for dirt bikes (that's why I ended up not buying them and buying the boat instead). After 60 or 80 hours, they expect you to tear down the whole motor and replace the cylinder and such. That's even on a Honda. Rebuild an engine every 60 or 80 hours?! Insane.

So, what I've learned is that toys are expensive. :) Some moreso than others. If you want a lower-maintenance boat, it's probably better to get one without a supercharger. A lot of people recommend getting a twin engine, non-supercharged boat. But twin engines means twice the maintenance of one engine.
 
Mine failed at 114 hours. Luckily my 2008 had the titanium washers. I got it replaced under my extended dealer service contract. It is considered regular maintenance. I highly recommend doing it. I'm going to have to do it again soon. I'm not looking forward to it, but oh well. I'll probably have to replace the wear ring as well. I've lost some speed. Not looking forward to it either.
