i got me a 2008 rxt and was wondering what is including in the 300 dollar 10 hour service? I do all the work on my car myself and everything very mechiancally inclined but never worked on watercraft wondering if i could do it myself

Great question. I have an RXP with 4 hours currently. I am also mechanically inclined, and would like to know what the 10 hour service entails.

Most dealers will check over everything and give everything a tighten and adjustment if needed. They will change the spark plugs and oil and filter. I would call your dealer to get an exact list of what they do for their customers. I have heard like 10 different stories 10 different menbers, from 10 different dealers.

As we speak mine two are at the dealer for the 10 hour service, but when I dropped them off the dealer was like basically its an oil change. The manual says they check and tighten everything...hopefully everything will be done right....was a great guy when i purchased them!!!

Exactly what my dealer told me. Just change the oil and check the plugs. My 08 RXT has like 7hrs and I'm getting ready to do all that myself. I'm not paying $180 for an oil change.

Just picked them up $201.00 for oil change and checking of the plugs...he said everything looks great...so i guess ill keep and eye and keep doing what i am doing...but for the future will have to make that decision to do it myself or someone else!!

when you hit 10 hrs does a light come on the dash saying you need to service it soon? someone told me that but am not sure if they are correct. If so how are you guys clearing that when you service them yourself. Also anyone with a rxpx or rxtx what is your redline?? i think mine is a little low but not sure why that would be

good question but yeah my dealer wants to charge me 300 that is the only reason i am asking.....didnt know if there were some like major points to check or whatever thanks

There's a service reminder that should come on at 10hrs and then every 100hrs. it should reset all by itself. I believe the redline on the X models is the same as the other sc 4tecs at around 7900.

Got my 2008 GTX out of the shop yesterday after the 10 hour service. They changed the oil, oil filter and plugs. $171.02

215 and 255 4-tecs have 8100 ECUs

MAINT will display on the guages once the first 10 hour service is reached.

Stealerships will do as mentioned above. They also plug in their B.U.D.S. and can tell what RPM ranges the motor has been in during the first 10 hours. For that they do, it is expensive.

well i wil get the equipment thats for sure thats what everyone said about me working on my car also did stuff most mechanics dont want to touch i love challenges

The only way to get the diagnostic software is if your a seadoo dealer. It's kinda pricy too.

Someone said that they check the rpm ranges during the first 10 hrs? Why do they do that are they going to tell you that you were to hard on it the first 10 hrs? Everyone says something different about break in, What do you guys think. I have 3 hrs on my ski and i just ride it normal and if i get on it i only do for a few secs then give it a break

The reason is, you are not supposed to go WOT for the first 10 hours... If it blows they can check to see how long or if you where at WOT... My 4-tec when breaking it in, I was all over the rpm range, and yes I even went to WOT but only for about 15-20 seconds...
I advise you to go up and down the rpm range and never stay at the same rpm range for \more than 3-5 minutes, I still to this day only run mine between 5,000-6,000 and ever so often go WOT!!!

Hope this helps...

Thanks for the info, i have had it at Wot but only for a few secconds i mostly have just been cruising on it but i cant wait for this 10 hrs to be over so i can really have some fun

I agree I race motocross to and everyone says the way you break it in is how it will run for the rest of its life, I have always ran about half throttle for a few laps then really lay into the motor and havent had a problem yet, knock on wood

"Break-In".......

I believe it's safe to say that "break-in", is not what the term meant several years ago.

Let me try and keep this short......I know, I do nothing short, but I will this time.

Have you ever heard the term "case hardened"? This is basically what's taking place in the first 10 hours. These engines are newly built engines. There not something tried and tested for several hundred hours, then sold to you as new.

When you blend the throttle in a wide range, your changing the heating values of all the metal components. In hardening metal, it's heated up then cooled in oil. The theory in the engine is the same. By heating it up and cooling it off, changing the temperature range, the oils temperature and heating properties change too, thus hardening all the components of the engine allowing them to all flex, expand and twist together at the same time, as these newer generation of engines built today, have some of the highest torque value to engine displacement ever built.

I'd just be happy that someone built you a nice and fast toy, do as they ask so it brings you years of fun.

In the meantime, the next generation of jet ski engines will be even faster. With the addition of the 2012 model TRX's and TRT's, the new 440 hp, after burning, gas turbine engines will hit speeds in excess of 140 mph. The rider will have special gear that comes with the craft, like the "quick deploy" parachute in the event you fall off and the autonomous maneuvering of the craft as it comes back to pick you up, locating you essentially by the "homing" beacon of the safety lanyard you have strapped to your wrist.

Now, don't you all start emailing about that PWC just yet.........I'm only kidding!..........but wouldn't it be so cool!...................

lol snipe..

My dealer told me to do this and I did as told.

For the first take of fuel do not exceed 50% throttle. So I used the training key for the first tank. Never had over 4,200 rpms till 4 hours. After that I used the regular key and never maxed rpms for more than a blip. Which I still do and just finished 12 hours on the craft.

If something ever happens to the engine and they try to put it on me for my break in process, lets just say either my dealer will cough up the expenses them selvs... or they wont be a dealer.

I am doing the same thing. All over the rpm range. Took it to WOT just briefly once. I have tried to be careful not to 'hole shot' the boat either during break-in. You want the motor to be loaded during breaking but not overly stressed.

I've got 5 hrs on her now and am very pleased with the performance.
