Well, I forgot to pull the plug out when I put my boat on the lift. It rained and now the engine compartment is completely flooded. I drained it, but the engine doesn't start...I think I shorted the MPEM completely.

Ah well...such is life! Hopefully I can find the part cheaply enough...new ones are extremely expensive since I have the Speedster with dual engines.

What, you get rain over there! LoL.

No seriously Joe, thats bad news.:(

I thought those mpem's where a sealed unit.
Can you not dry her out and spray the terminals and work the conections.

Joe, I thought it had a sealed box also...if you need a new MPEM...try the ebay thing first. I have seen some go pretty reasonable. It's worth a try...

Are you pulling our leg?

Joe, are you pulling our leg? You know that the MPEM is sealed. Flooding shouldn't have caused it to get zapped. I"m sure you checked the fuses. Did you pull and check the magneto?
I feel funny trying to trouble shoot for someone who knows so much about these units!...........
I hope you get her fixed!............let me know if there's something I can POSSIBLY do to help you!...............

Documentary, free labor.

Hey JoeZ, Get me your boat and we'll make a documentary on it's repair. Kinda like what happens when you oops! We are all human with busy life styles, reguardless of who we are or what we do. Give me a heads up, if your interested. Free labor, you supply the needed parts, and maybe a beverage or 2.
Karl

No Start

Hi Joe,
Dawg here. Are you saying both engines crank but won't start? Or are you saying they won't crank? What year is your speedster?

Hey all...

It's a 96 Speedster with the twin engines.
I haven't had a chance to work on it at all. I know the mpems are suppose to be sealed, but when I cracked it open there was water inside.

When the batteries are hooked up, it doesn't so much as beep anymore when the key is on post. I haven't had time to investigate much further really, but I know that the batteries were ok when I tested it.

If work calms down a bit I'll crank on the boat some more, but I've been slammed recently with things on my plate. With so little time I've been considering taking the boat into the service center that is right near by.

Wow!

Wow Joe, I didn't know it was so serious. I hope you can get her going with minimal effort. I know what you mean with a lot on the plate. It's tough having a job and a love for the boat. I'm in the position where I have to choose between cutting the grass or working on my Doo. With winter here, the boat wins out!
I wish you luck. I hope you don't have to replace the mpems.....ouch! :ack:

Hey Joe, I did some checking and found the mpem's can be checked with a multi-meter. I have the means to pick up the beast and have a look see, as it is kinda slow here at work. Give me shout back and see what we can put together... I have a tow vehicle and a empty trailer from my Challenager that I just rebuilt ready for the road. You can throw me a couple bucks for transport fuel. You supply parts needed and I'll supply free labor...Heck, we can't have our Administrator's boat not running!
Karl

I have a multimeter and forgot what my test results were with it. Karl, how are weekends for you? I'll certainly pay for fuel, and a beer or three ;)

Watch out!

Watch him Joe, he's trying to bait the hook!........before for you know it, it'll cost you an arm and a leg to get it back from him!...I can just see it now, a $12.000.00 dollar repair bill.......

I have weekends open too...uh except when I'm out on my doo..lol Give me a shout and we'll get this thing done...Our season is year round so anytime...Oh yea, my trailer is Legal, or I can bring a Dealer Plate for yours.

I think your trailer would be better since I haven't moved mine in a couple years and don't know how the bearings and such as. Figure in about two weeks so everything settles down post holiday would be best. Would that work for you?

Thanks again for helping me out on this!

Sounds good, I just re-did my Challenger Boat trailer, from tires to bunks. I an a draw-tite trailer hitch dealer... Give me a shout as for the time and can-do.

Bunks?

Karl, do you knwo where to get the anchors that tie the bunks to the frame? or did you modify with your own design. I need the brackets for the back bunks..........

Heck yea, are you talking for my Lift or my trailer? I got the bunk attachments for the trailer at my local true value hardware store...They have a marine area being close to the coast. For the lift, we have like 2 lift mfg's in town...cause we are on the coast. Use galvanized what ever you do.

Karl, weekend of the 25th good for you? This is about the first time I'll have free :ack:

It sounds ok so far... I did just sell my tow van...lol, on New Years Eve Day. It was my demo from my company. The price was like $3,000 more than I wanted to sell it for so it's gone...I'm working on a back up now, and should have it ready by this weekend. I have a 1988 Dodge Dakota 4x4 with 4" body lift 34K on it. I've had in storage for 4 yrs. I bought it new in its year. It is on the road to restoration to be road worthy by the weekend. I usually always have something with a hitch on it in inventory, so not to worry...I'll git er done! lol
