Just picked up an 08' challenger 180 with only 5 hours on it from my buddy. Starts right up no issues. It needs some tlc. Still getting her cleaned up.

I see it's recommended 100hr / 2 years supercharger rebuild. With only 5 hours would I be okay to use the boat a few times before sending it off for rebuild or ? Would like to get the family out atleast a couple times.

to check the sc,,,put your hand on the hose going into the intake from the sc,..have someone rev the motor,,,you will feel it swell and expand if everything is up to snuff…then enjoy the boat!

The problem with a low hour boat is that everything dries and gets brittle which is what the plastic bearing spacers will do on your supercharger. I wouldn't run it at all until I rebuilt the supercharger. It's not worth the risk since if it fails you'll be pulling the motor and completely going through it unless you get really lucky.

Exactly what Ski-d00 said. Hate to say but I’ve lost an engine to a supercharger. Better to play safe and rebuild, risk is too high.

Hiya . Seadoo up to 2008 engines have still have the dredded cramic washer fitted. They didn’t really change to metal to the very end of 08/09. As soon as the super charger warms up it will probably let go and you will be kicking your smelly brown arse. Do your self a big big favour and get a rebuild!!.ps. Nice boat.

Also,

If I were you, judging by the location and pics....

I would pull all air hoses off of the engine to look for nests. Nothing worse than ingesting a mouse nest into the engine on startup.

Well took the supercharger off this morning. Looks like a decent amount of corrosion on it. Smh, dont mind the leaves that fell on it.20220621_084855.jpg

Wow, that is some corrosion.

You might want to take that apart and soak the components in something to remove corrosion then paint with a high temp paint.

One good flaw these machines have is that they all leak oil into the intake through the blow-by valve, which ends up coating the intake with a mist of oil over time. If you can get it cleaned up as best you can, once you start using it, it will keep the intake pretty lubed unless you replace it with a catch can.

If I was running my machine in purely a fresh water environment, I might go with a catch can. In my brackish environment, I welcome the blow-by.

Yeah for 5 hours on the boat i was like, WOAH. Mailed it off to PWC Muscle today for rebuild to be on the safe side for washers and bearings so. Nothing else look bad. And engine starts up as soon as I press the button. So hoping all is good once I get it back and in the water.
