I changed out the spark plugs today and noticed the threaded caps were not there. It appears the coil has it's own insert, so I removed the caps from the new plugs and installed. Is this standard practice or what? I want to be sure before I start riding. As you can see in the pic, the threaded cap isn't installed. Also, what sealant are you guys using on the coils to prevent water intrusion?

normal.

Aside...you should hear the funny stories from folks who "just swapped plugs...now runs like sht"...because their boots are arc'n all over the place.

heh

I've never put anything on the plugs except anti-seize on the threads. You don't wanna risk screwin up those aluminum heads.

That's all i did aside from removing threaded caps. Aftter changing the plugs, the engine sounds and runs with authority! I was curious about the boot sealant because the manual mentioned it. Actually, the instructions that came with the Sea Doo XPS kit mentioned sealant.

It is good to put some dielectric grease on the threaded tip and on the ceramic part of the plug. Helps keep moisture out of the critical areas and provides some lubrication so things come apart easily next time.

Antisieze on the plug threads is correct as well.

GE 100% plumbers grade silicone is about the best product out there for sealing the coils (or just about anything else you don't want wet). The regular grade with 24 hour cure comes in a smaller hand tube with a reusable cap that seems to keep the extra product useable for at least a couple months, nothing gets through that stuff.
