06 Sportster 155 hp..engine surges at 2800 RPM area any fixes etc.

New guy here..Just bought boat with 155 hp engine..long slow zones. Engine seems to surge back and forth between 2700 and 3100 RPM and seems to run rough when lowered to full idle. Any help with this would be appreciated. Runs great otherwise.

These modern fuel injected engines can be hard to diagnose without the proper scanners and test equipment, but my friends Yamaha AR230 had a similar sort of problem. I know they are not the same engine but his fix was as simple as a new set of spark plugs.

Start there and give it a try.

Thanks Aaron, I think I will try new plugs as I don't know their condition. I have the service manual so have been reading it and see the Electronics and sensors could play into this. Seadoo test equipment and knowledge needed there.
