Boat's been fine for a week since start of holiday - end of summer down here in Africa. Anyway, reversed out of dock tonight, all fine then port engine cut out, no alarms. Tried to re-start, engined turned but battery light came on and wouldn't start. Started starboard to help with electrical power - I have dual battery system. Port started, idled fine. Tried to pull off, but port would not rev up, strong vibration / judder and more steam than one would like to see. Both engines idling, the temperature alarm for port came on. Idled back to dock on starboard engine.

Checked the engine coolant level and it is fine, and was not superheated or boiling. So my first conclusion is that I did not damage engine if coolant was fine - correct? It's night time now so can't take her out of the river, but while I panic, some thoughts please on what to look for at sunrise????

Apparently no water pumps are electrical.
Obviously engine coolant is closed circuit and since coolant level fine and wasn't boiling, then rule that part out since also doesn't explain the judder/vibration.
Couldn't be as simple as water inlet for exhaust blocked - what would have caused the shudder then??

I hope it's (just) something in the impeller - the shudder/judder makes me suspect this. From what I know the water pump for water cooling through the exhaust is driven off the shaft and a friend said that there is also a temp sensor in the exhaust cooling. So if shaft is inhibited then no circulation = the steam and the temperature alarm? Also, if shaft inhibited it's probably a LOT harder to start - which explains the battery light coming on.

I have heard several stories of the supercharger going on these engines : what are the symptoms when they go? Apparently there is some connection between supercharger heat exchange and exhaust cooling loop? Yes, I'm probably just paranoid and won't sleep well tonight...

Thx!

I'm of no use regarding the symptoms of a faulting/failed supercharger.

But I would start with yanking it out of the water and visually inpspecting the intake (pump intake) and the impeller/pump housing for any ropes weeds trees etc. that might have sucked in. Start there and let us know, there is alot of information on the superchargers and informed members that will likely help yah out.

You avatar pick could have been taken on our river last night!

Problem solved : four feet of very thick cotton rope (commercial type) wound around shaft inlet portion, fortunately very little wedged into impeller. re-launched, gave it a good run and no issues with alarms or anything (so far). I woke up every hour last night in a panick, we're 7 hours from SeaDoo agent!

It's weird to me that partial rope wind would cause the heat alarm???? I've had rope in impeller before but then I'd cut engine the moment I saw it and didn't chance re-starting.

thx

SWWWEEEEEETTTT!!

Glad you got that sorted!! The alarm likely tripped due to an inlet being blocked that draws in lake water to cool your exhaust system. Easy fix! But understand your stress level. Thats a sick boat man! Would've had me up all night too.
