Was out all day no glitches in starting, about 6 hrs run time and starboard starter just clicked clicked..
Did this last yr and I cleaned 15 amp fuse connection on solenoid and it fixed it.

Now it just clicks, solenoid click. I jumped the terminals and the starter made noise but didn't crank, the plyer tip melted redhot when I tried this.

I pulled the plugs to verify no hydro lock and same redhot plyers

I gotta pull the starter to further investigate wether it's an engine rotation prob or starter prob.

Two questions
1) what type of reverse Torx head fastener holds the starter on? Where can I get that kinda socket drive?
2) is there a way to rotate a 4-TEC SC engine without the starter?

Thx

OK found INVERSE TORX sockets at McMaster Car which is whats needed for the heads on most screws on the engines.

DOES ANYONE KNOW IF THERE IS A WAY TO TURN OVER THE ENGINE WITHOUT THE STARTER? I dont see any belts, PTO out, even if I were to pull a Pump off the shaft is Clutch coupled right?

Pullin starter next-hoping that is the failure.

On the 4-tec engines... there isn't an easy way to turn them by hand. The PTO is covered, and the carbon seal/boot covers the shaft. (depending on the model)

I'm guessing you will find a bad starter... but I haven't heard of too many failures on the 4-tec starters yet. BUT... DO NOT buy an aftermarket starter. They all suck. Take your OEM unit apart, clean it, replace the brushes, and put it back in.

Dr Honda, Thx!
Got the starter out last night and its dead short-Im gonna buy a new one and rebuild this one as a spare

I'll post pics and a writup on the whole shebang....pretty discouraging when your lookin at the Forum for some quick help and see 20 plus views but no responses???

Thx Again for your reply!

I understand.

You are fighting a few things here....

1) The 4-tec's are new (er) and the guys who own them, don't normally work on them. So, lower traffic with knowledge.

2) Since I don't own a 4-tec... I don't always come into this section.

3) Talking about traffic... just because it shows 20 views, doesn't mean it was 20 people who have an account. I bet if you look right now.. a small % are "Members", and the rest are guests.

I need to find a Moderator who knows and owns 4-tec's. That way, that person will be in this forum more.
