My C180 died in the water this weekend and won't start, It cranks fine and all the fuses and electronics are fine however there is a knocking noise coming from engine. I'm afraid something major broke, like a cam or crank. Anyone had this happen and if so what was the problem.

So, No one had any thoughts and that's fine cause i think i found the problem. I pulled the valve cover and the timing chain and cam were both fine. pulled the fuel pump off the tank to check for water and there it was. The fuel pick up is a cheap piece of plastic and had broke while on the lake. i picture to be like a straw, if you have a hole in the straw as long as it's below the fluid level it works fine but as soon as it's above the level you suck nothing but air. as far as the knocking noise goes, i hope i'm just being paranoid.

Got the new fuel pump in last friday, cost me way more than i think it should have. Good news is that the boat is back up and running, knocking noise was unusual to me because my boat always starts right up within a couple of seconds and i have never heard it crank for any real amount of time. thank god it wasn't what i originally thought.
