Hi guys,
New to forum. So I bought a used 04 XPDI running with low compression. I decided to rebuild it myself replacing crank oversized pistons and of course having head machined accordingly. Got everything back together hooked up garden hose everything looked good operating as it should. Happy camper! Go down to the river take it out everything going good 45-50 mph after warming up then motor shuts of won’t start. I look into the engine compartment standing water half way along side motor. Bilge pump didn’t pump water out so I hand baled water out of rear compartment. Removed water and plugs and attempted to start …nothing. Towed ski back home and attempted to turn crank no go. Squirted wd 40 in cylinders still no movement.
Am I looking at another rebuild? And where did the water come from? All hoses where connected in engine compartment. Previous owner stated the engine had been water filled before.

you don’t necessarily need a new motor,,,”we” have all revived sunkened motors,
The water could easily come in thru the carbon seal, very common…take it to the ramp, seat off, pto cover off,,,on a bright sunny day,,,slowly back it in…secured to the trailer,,,look for leaks at the carbon ring,,,check the hull for cracks before this,,,rare,,but could happen,,,
was the water warm,,if not,,,it is lake water,,,external intrusion,,if warm,,,internal/engine “extrusion.”,,gasket, loose hose, exhaust pipe frost/die plug leaking,

Great info! I will definitely check out carbon ring. What’s your thoughts on not being able crank motor over. I can’t turn crank at all.

Take spark plugs out and see if she turns over that way it might be hydro locked.what you can do first before going to ramp tilt machine bow up throw a hose in there and see if it leaks out anywhere from the bildge.alot of times guys forget to put the cooling lines on the bottom heat exchanger because during removal they break off just a thought.

Remove the spark plugs and get the engine to turn over. That water needs to come out ASAP. With water in the engine don't be surprised if you have to recharge the battery during the clearing process and don't burn up the starter. Once these bastages get wet internally they are a bear to restart.

The starter could have gotten water in it and they won't work when wet. Check your fuses. Try turning the engine by hand with the spark plugs removed Good Luck
