Got this sportster this year and have had some great times with it. I was beginning to believe that this may be a truly reliable boat (it would be my first reliable boat)

My 3 sons had the boat out over the past few days. They said there is an issue with high RPM's so I just got back from checking it out. The engione is reving very high. It will not generate enough power to plain out, at least I will not give it enough power as the RPM's are too high and I do not want to mess with it. They said the issue got worse gradually. It ran well with only 2 peolpe in it but not well with 4. Then it an poorly with only 1 person in it.

We thoroughly checked the impeller for blockages and found nothing. After reviewing the troubleshooting manual I was wondering what the "rev l miter" may be, it says that may be one of the possible causes.

Hoping ther wearing ring is not damaged and allowing too much water through the edges to prevent enough power.

Any clue??

Thanks,

Wearing ring....

For an 04 model, I wouldn't think it was the wearing ring, but if your playing in shallow water around a beach, picking up a lot of sand, it's possible.

See if you can take a look from the under side, get a look at the impeller and wearing ring clearance. It's suppose to be no greater than .040". But if you can take a look, see how far away the impellers edges are from the wearing ring, you may be able to determine if it's the problem.

Also, if you picked up a piece of debris, like a plastic bag, it can get stuck between the impeller and stator. Shine a flashlight into the rear of the nozzle to see if something like that can be seen.

Thanks Seadoosnipe. I'll be back to the boat on Sunday and give her a good look. The impeller and wearing ring are new. It is not likely that my sons took it in low water but "boys will be boys".

I'll let you know what I find.

You and Karl are welcome for a beer at my camp any time

Cool!.........

Cool.........I'd love a nice cool one.....but, uh, brrrrrrrrrrr, I dont' know if this Southern boy can handle that cold climate of the North........Can you mail it?

Let us know what you find out.

04 Sportster Reving

I'd love to sit back with a cold one myself right now but I want to do it on my sportster, that continues to rev high and not perform.

The whole story is that the boys got a rope stuck in the impeller area. The rope was cut out and removed. The boat ran perfercly after the rope was removed. After over an hour of sold riding she began to act up. As mentioned earlier, the condition then got worse and now revs very high while the boat chuggs along slowly.

I now have her out of the water and have inspected the impeller area. There is no debris blocking anything. The impeller appears tight enough and I do not detect any damage to the ewearing ring. I have not measured for the .040" but it liiks tight.

Any ideas?

Thanks!!

04 sportster revs high

BTW, I have looked in the manuel and it refers to a possiblr rev l mter. Could I be the owner of a faulty rev l miter?

Thanks.

04 Sportster, high PRMs low speed

I just had a fellow that claims to know alot about boats, but not much about jet boats, take a look. He suggest it could be the transmission.

Yikes!

Yes it does sound like a problem with the transmission of hp into jet propulsion. I do not hear it described this way very often though. This term transmision is used by both those informed and those not very informed with jets. So good luck

problem solved $$

FYI, I brought the boat Dockside Landing in Ticonderoga NY. Like all boat repair places they are not cheep, but I do believe they are honest. Ed is the mechanic that helped me as he did in the past. He showed me where there was wear on the ring. He will replace for $225.

I consideded that fair. He'll try to have it done by this weekend

Always learning
