Having issues with my 04 Islandia. It runs great at times however just had it out yesterday and had the engine cut off on me and not restart. Here was my scenerio:

*In the middle of a long idle in a cove. Had the blower running.

*Went to bump the throttle a little to idle faster and the engine cut off and wouldn't restart

*Had friends tow us in for about 30min. Engine restarted at the dock.

I just bought this boat at the end of last season so still getting use to it. I feel like it runs great at higher speeds, say half throttle and above. However, tends to have issue at lower speeds, particularly coming out of idle up to about 1/4 throttle. Looking for any ideas on what might be going on. Planning on taking it to the local sea doo shop but i'm sure that will get expensive in a hurry. Wife is getting frustrated as we've had to be towed in a few different times now. Got to get this boat figured out so it is reliable. Thanks in advance for the help.

Since you just got the boat... I would start with a compression check. Since it runs well in the upper RPM's, I'll assume there aren't any mechanical issues... but it's allways good info to have as a "Base Line".

OK.... an Opti shutting down at idle.......

Hummm.... That's rough.

You could have a TPS going bad. If you get an bad reading from it... the ECU will simply shut down on the Opti engine.

You could also have a small leak in the fuel system. If it draws air... it will shut down.

OR... you could have a leak in the air system. (it uses compressed air to raise fuel pressure)

Unfortunately, the Opti's can be hard to troubleshoot, and you should look into buying a scan tool from Rinda Tech. If it's a sensor, or EECU issue... you will need to plug it in, and read the codes as soon as they happen. OR... better yet... read them as the engine is running.

Continuation of this problem. The dealer is now saying they have determined that the fuel rail assembly is bad and needs replaced. $1500 for the kit from Mercury and another couple hundred worth of labor is what they are telling me. Does this seem right?

The fuel rail is just a tube. If it's not leaking... I doubt that's the issue.

Take it to a Mercury dealer for a second opinion. Seadoo hasn't officially worked on the Merc boats since 2005.

It is leaking. The shop i go to is also a Merc dealer. They said they worked with Mercury tech support to figure it out. Really hope this gets everything taken care of. The motor only has 180 hrs on it so should have a lot more fun to be had in it!

ok on the leak.

Well... unfortunately... since you are paying a shop to do the work... it's always going to be expensive. (Full price for parts, and expensive labor)

If you are able to do it yourself... you could find a good used part for a few $$... and be up and running.

As far as "It should have more fun in it!"... I agree.
