02' RXDI Pump Issue?

Hi,

02' RXDI fresh rebuild by me im 16 don't have anyone mechanically inclined in the family just learning as I go so please bear with me.

I got my ski all together and im coming down with this issue shown in the YouTube short I posted Video anything over 3300 RPM or so it just completely loses traction and then dies sometimes.

Keep in mind the pump last season was working flawlessly I tore into the motor to investigate some piston skirt wear. The engine was running just fine my machinist said it was all good and told me to put it back together. Im starting to think I didn't put in the wood riff key on the PTO side.. The pump seems to be sitting all good. Just wanted to come on here and ask before I go taking the PTO flywheel off etc.. Any suggestions?

Do troubleshooting before you take anything apart. When you say pump I am assuming you mean the air compressor. What is your fuel pressure with the key on and engine off? What is the fuel pressure with the engine running? You could have something as simple as a bad o-ring on the fuel rail or an air line connected to the wrong location. Check that you have the air line connected to the correct side of the rave solenoid. You could have a damaged reed valve. Don't go tearing into the engine too soon. Did you check the compression?

No no, the engine is running well, the jet pump just loses traction at 3500rpm or so. But the jet pump was just fine last season. Were you able to see the video?

I can't tell what it is doing from the video. Is the engine stalling or are you letting off the throttle? I don't think there is a woodrift key on the PTO coupling but I could be mistaken. I'd look at the water seal to make sure it isn't leaking and also inspect the pump wear ring. Good Luck !!

I saw the unedited message in my gmail, mentioning not enough pressure on the seal I did notice that this time around for some reason is that my problem possibly it was almost lose but dosent leak from what I see..

It doesn't have to leak much to draw air in. Temporarly You can pull the rubber bellows toward the engine a bit and tighten it back down to see if that eliminates the problem. I've seen large O-rings or thick gaskets used as spacers to make the tension added more permanent and reliable. That is... IF that is your problem. I'd eliminate the wear ring as a possibility as that is easy to check. When you assembled the pump did you replace the gasket on the pump?
