I have a engine with 1 cylinder with no compression and the other with 110 +or-. I haven't torn into it yet but is it better to send it off to have it rebuilt or purchase a remanufactured one if I decide to do anything at all?

I'd take the head, exhaust, carbs and cylinders off, and inspect it all. Maybe, just maybe the bottom end is good, and it needs a top end.
Replace the pistons, wrist pins, have the cylinders rebored and check the head for warpage. After you gt it apart, check all the slack on the rods, (bottom brgs) and check for smooth rotation. If you can get away with just a top end, it's cheaper. Many folks can doo this themselves.

Hey rogers. Welcome to the forum.
I'm guessing there's a pretty good hole in your piston and probably the rear one.
Most of the time it is just a little more to replace the engine with a reman. but not in your case. The reman is 1500 compared to topend kit 300.

Main thing is to find out the cause of the top end going out. If you do not have any experience with two stroke engines, especially the DI's, I would get someone to look it over split the casing and check out the bottom end. No need in fixing the topend if the bottom is messed up too and you don't know the cause of the original problem.

You can pull the head off though pretty easily and take a peak at the pistons. With 1 psi on one cylinder, it gonna be pretty obvious.

:agree:

Getting somebody who knows that motor to look it over is an excellent idea.

The later models are complexer! (is that a word?)

I think there is some wisdom in becoming a "Premium Member" and getting a full manual.

That should give you some idea of what you should look for, and supply you with schematics to assist in disassembly, review of points to check, and re assembly.

But, while apart, have somebody with experience look at it. You know, you may discover obvious problems without any assistance.

Then post back here, and tell us what you found. Somebody may have some good advice.

Are you up for doing a top end yourself?

(I did my first 2 stroke on a 1975 YZ 80 when I was 11 yrs old!)

Some folks like this kind of thing!
