I have a 02 gti takeing on water when it runs, could it be the same problem others have with the carbon ring, or is there something elese on this model I should be checking. Thanks

it could be the siphon tubes in the exit nozzle, when one comes out it will let water shoot back in the hull.

Well I have checked every way to get water to enter, and I can only get it to fill up running at a pretty good speed. I do not see any leaks, the carbon ring fits loose but I cant see any water comeing in there. It take about 15-20 mins to get about 2-3 gallons in the hull. Any other suggestions?

Bailers.......

Look over the bailer tubes really good. Like Scot said above, this is the most likely place to fail and fill up your hull. The carbon ring seal is suppose to be a bit loose. You can actually pull the boot back by hand and flood your hull.

If your only taking on water while running, it's either the bailer tubes or your engines cooling system has a leak somewhere.

i found the mine was letting water in where the steering cable exits the hull. i put some windshield sealant around the cable and it stopped that leak.

as far as yours go, i dunno. one time my curved, tuned pipe exhauset loosened off the exhaust manifold and that took in a good amount of water. when it was running

put it on the trailer, back it into the water and run it up with the seat off. i am inclined to go with a small cooling system leak. at speed, the bailers suck water out. sitting still they will let it back in.

I will check the bailer tubes, I have backed it in the water and let it run and the only leak I saw was in the muffler, so I drilled it out and put a screw with jb weld and stoped that leak, but it still didnt fix the problem. Are the bailer tubes hokked up to the to the two plastic boxes on the riveted brackets at the very bottom? Thanks.

Siphon tubes......

In this case, where you take on water while riding but when stopped, can't see any water coming in, it's usually the bailer tubes. This system is set up to work on the low pressure created in the siphon tubes in the rear of the pump. If the sipon tubes come off or break, then water pressure created in the nozzle can actually flow into the compartment through the bailer tubes.

Now, if you've got water coming in through the bailers at idle, this usually means that the tie straps holding the hoses above water level have broken, etc.....allowing water to flow back in when you come off plane.

Don't dismiss the cooling system water leaks either. Use a mirror to look under your exaust and manifold with a flashlight to see if you see any water stains...............

check your exhaust check where the hose goes in from the head. you can see the flat spot on the exhaust where it was molded. it will leak sometimes only while on the throttle. both of my doos had that problem and the person that welded it for me said he gets alot of them.

Thanks for all the response. I will check it out some more this week. I cant see any leaks at all at idle. Do the bailer tubes actually pull water from the hull, because they have a lot of build up on the bottom of them. Thanks again.
