Just picked up this 01 Utopia 185 up and clearly there’s some parts missing for the engine cover. I took the filter out and have a new one coming. It just rests on top, and previous owner obviously didn’t care it was getting eaten into ! The parts where the fingers are pointing are there hoses that are supposed to be there? Been searching for schematic for this boat/engine so I can try to source the missing parts.

That engine is an Optimax. Not sure of the displacement/horsepower. The giveaway is the air compressor on top. One of the holes on the plastic cover appears to sit over the air intake casting. This helps supress some of the noise from the intake manifold. I am not sure how the cover is held down.

If you are a member here, you can d/l a service manual for your engine. You will need the serial number to get the right one.

Problem is when I push the cover down so the indicated areas are in the proper inlet in the plastic cover they’re about two inches from touching along with the lid is sitting on the portions of the engine that spin chewing into the bottom of the lid. The engine bay looked like someone did a burn out in it (lol)

I could not find any info about how that cover is fastened to engine.

HOWEVER___ is that green ScotchBrite I see in the corner? Cut to fit the little air filter box that feeds the air compressor??? Do you know what that stuff is made with? Grit. Sand. Aluminum oxide. Fiberglass. Other abrasives that are DEATH to an engine. Or air compressor. Especially when shaken. Or vibrated.

Scotch brite had nothing to do with the engine/filter, used for scrubbing the rust outta the storage lockers. Had the proper filter in the lid, I removed it to get the part number. I did find the proper manual and the lid is correct just as it is, appear there’s a rubber grommet that connects the intake to the lid and it was still attached to the intake. Everything’s back in place but seems pretty janky as far as fit. Oh well Thanks for the help Tim

Whew! Glad to hear no SB in the intake air flow.!

Looks like my engine... 200 Optimax. There are two locating pins for the cover which will help when installing it. I've circled their locations. If you keep one hand on each side, you can feel the alignment pins when you re-install it. If it's trashed, though, it may not sit right no matter what you do.
