Hi I am new to this forum as am new to owning PWC's I have a 2001 GTX with 947 Rotax. It starts great and idles great, but when I hit the throttle I hear a sort of high pitch sound and cant get it over 10 or 15 mph. I'm stumped at waht it could be. Any takers?

That high pitch soud you hear his the engine running out of fuel. Check the fuel switch, and filters. If that don't work a carb rebuild should be done,

The High pitched sound you hear is possibly a bearing noise from the jet pump assy. If you fire it up on the garden hose try to figure where it is coming from. If the fuel system was the problem it would just stall or sputter or hesitiate...no squealing noise....at least in my 30 years experience.

Finally got a chance to attempt running it with the water hose but now it wont even start. Do you think it needs a carbuerator cleaning? As with the high pitch noise, bearing in the jet pump gone bad makes sense because it acted like when you hit the throttle, the impeller wasn't spinning to its full potential.

It's possible. It shouldn't have the gray fuel lines, but if it has been sitting for a while it wouldn't hurt. Try to change the spark plugs and see if it fires up. You could take some fuel and add some oil you use in the GTX and pre-mix a little. Add a little like couple oz per cylinder and see if it fires then.

Keep us posted on you progress.

changed spark plugs fired right up no problems with carbs or engine high pitched sound coming from rear of pwc sounds like from jet pump assy. im not getting any trust on acceleration. would it be the impeller or drive shaft spline?

I discovered the problem. I removed the impeller cover to discover it was bone dry of oil. The bearings are gone. The impeller has started cutting into the wear ring. Can I change these bearings myself? Is the wear ring going to have to be replaced? Is this a do it myself project or should I put it in the shop?

You can do the wear ring and impeller yourself, only special tool you'll need is the impeller removal tool, which is cheap. The bearings you should be able to do also but you have to have more special tools for that. I saw on a website where you can rent them, deposit is really high, but as long as you return them you get it back. Here's the link.
