Hey everyone. I have a pretty bad water leak on my seadoo. It will leak abouta gallon within about 20 minutes of riding around in the lake. I have taken the seat off while idle and could not see any leak. I checked the hull and it only leaks when it is running in the lake. It doesnt leak with the hose hooked up. I have searched all over and the main thing i can come up with on my mystery leak is the notoriously sounding Carbon ring. Is the leak very noticable from the driveshaft? i dont see water leaking there and i looked all underneath the engine for loose or busted hoses couldnt find any. The rubber hose connecting my pipe to my waterbox was a little worn but i dont think its the culprit. Also, Is the carbon ring supposed to be able to move back and forth (side to side not towards the engine or impellor) It almost has a small amount of cavitation with takeoff but it will still run 45+. I hope thats enough information. I feel like it could really be ANYTHING and im trying my hardest to not take it to a mechanic since is 90 bucks an hr.

look in the jet ,,ther should be 2 "bailer tubes" hangin down from the top,,if they are there u will see them,if not youl see the holes they go in,,my ski took on lots of water and this definately one of the places,,i dont know about the carbone deal,,good luck,,btw the bailer tubes are like 5buks

What he said. But also make sure the bailer hoses are tied up at a high point... and that the 2 little "Buckets" in the bottom of the hull aren't clogged.

As far as the carbon seal... yes... it's just floats on the end of the boot.

rxpirate, once you get the leak sorted out you might want to check your wear ring, impeller, and rpms. I think your RX with the 951 should hit more like 60+ mph on top speed instead of 45+.

yes, the RX 951 should do around 60. something is wrong here...

My seadoo last year ran about 56. Now its only running at 48mph tops. I have the entire rossier package and have to run premium so i have been debating selling it if it wasnt faster than what it is now. Thanks for the input guys

100% stock should easily hit that. what RPM does it spin wide open? if it's 7k then the problem is jet pump, if it's under 6,500 then it's engine. (or both)...

I plan to have my wife film me doing some troubleshooting techniques for youtube, and I'll like them here this winter... I'm a bit too busy riding now ;)

Wide open mine hits 5950 rpms. And my buddies 02rxdi hits right at 6000me rpms so i disnt think there was anything wrong with it. Just that it has 178 hrs on it.

The 951 should hit as close as makes no difference 6,800 to 7,000 RPM WOT under load.

out of water is meaningless.

Looks like you have two problems here. Water entry and poor performance.
(as does your friend).

My guess is the cooling system leaks somewhere, but only under the pressures that running it on water produces.

I'd check all hoses, and the water regulator, as well as the hoses going to the block and under the pipe... a small nick or slit might hold water on the hose, but at RPM you have a lot of water moving...

I'd remove the seat and go for a run. or... leave it on the trailer at the ramp, and see if you can safely rev it a few times in the water, while looking for leaks.

I've also heard of people tying the ski to land (a tree) with a rope, and revving it... keep the lanyard ATTACHED to you in case the rope breaks.

Check the compression in your engine. All the fixes in the world won't fix a worn out engine. Unless your satisfied with it's performance...
