LCD display - polarization film replacement

The LCD display in my 2004 GTX is finally beginning to burn out on one side and I need to replace the polarization film. I'm looking for recommendations on a brand name from others that have been through this repair with reliable results. Also, what is the best way to join the top and bottom...

    Coil - 4-Tec, OEM replacement

Had a coil go bad after a little over 200 hours so I figured I'd replace all three coils given that they are 16 years old. The coils from SeaDoo that are listed as OEM (I'm assuming Denso) are listed for $119 each. Has anyone tried and had good luck with other less expensive alternatives?

2004 GTX voltage regulator - rectifier

Need to replace the voltage regulator - rectifier in my 2004 GTX (p/n 278001969). Are there any recommended aftermarket units that last longer / cool better than the OEM units?

Voltage regulator / rectifier gone bad?

I own a 2004 GTX that I purchased in 2014. I have bad no problems with it except the voltage regulator / rectifier. When I first purchased it the previous owner had just installed a new battery. I soon discovered that the battery would drain down after several hours on the water. The voltage...

    Wear ring - replacement justified?

My 2004 GTX 155 has just under 180 hours on it now. A couple of seasons ago I disassembled the pump and replaced all of the seals since it was never apart before and I wasn't sure about water intrusion. None was found and the bearing was in good shape, too. The wear ring and impeller looked good...

    Throttle body removal

I am going to remove the intake manifold to gain access to the oil cooler rubber hose connections since they are the originals with 178 hours of duty. Can anyone tell me if I can remove the throttle body cable without having to re-calibrate the idle air control (IAC)?

    Plastic odor at start up

My 2004 GTX has been running great the last few seasons. I just started it for the first time this season on the trailer with the water hose hooked up. It started right up and I let the engine run for 3 or 4 minutes before shutting it down. That's when I noticed a light smoke haze coming from...

    Oil cooler hoses

Has anyone replaced their oil cooler hoses on an older (circa 2004) 155 HP 4-Tec? Is it possible to remove and replace them without removing the engine? Do normal worm style hose clamps work or are the factory style crimped clamps required?

    MAPS voltage values

    Does anyone know what the voltage versus vacuum / pressure are supposed to be for a normally aspirated 155 HP 2004 4-Tec? I tested mine today with the following results: 0 psi = 3.9 V 2 inches vacuum = 3.6 4 inches = 3.27 6 inches = 2.97 8 inches = 2.65 10 inches = 2.35 12 inches =...

    Vaccum guage connection

I have a 2004 4-Tec GTX normally aspirated and would like to connect a vacuum gauge to perform some diagnostics. I couldn't find any other than ones before the throttle body. Any suggestions for a connection point after the throttle body to monitor intake manifold conditions?

Schrader valve adapter - fuel pressure gauge

Does anyone know what adapter to buy to connect the SeaDoo Schrader valve with a conventional fuel pressure gauge? I can't seem to locate one that specifically states it can be used on a SeaDoo PWC, they only refer to automotive applications.

    Idle Air Control - reset?

I own a 2004 GTX 4-Tec. I recently removed the IAC solenoid to clean it and inside the throttle body. Does the IAC need to be reset with the CANDOO type software or can I just run it as-is? Also, while I was cleaning it the plunger moved inward towards the solenoid. Is this o.k. or was...

    Inconsistent RPM

The motor has been running great so far this season until this weekend. Yesterday, the RPM was fluctuating approximately 100 RPM when it was cruising between 4500-5000 RPM. It fluctuated in the lower RPM band as well but not as much. Today, the RPM still fluctuated but it ran rough trying...

    Battery manufacturer recommendations

With the next season just around the corner, I'm planning on purchasing a new battery for my 2004 GTX. Any recommendations for a reputable manufacturer? On the flip side, those to avoid? I have kept mine on a charger since it was purchased a couple of years ago. It is a little weak when...

Hose replacement / refilling the coolant

I am going to replace the two coolant lines that run from the engine to the radiator mounted in the floor of the hull. Is there a trick to the trade to minimize the amount of coolant coming out of the hoses to avoid flooding the engine bay? I was going to use wood clamps to pinch the lines...

Throttle and steering cable service life

I have a 2004 GTX with about 145 hours on it. Never been used in salt water. As a rule of thumb, when can I expect to have to replace the throttle or steering cables? The throttle cable has a slight kink in it that can be seen when I open the throttle. Both the throttle cable and the...

    Is the charging system working?

I have a 2004 GTX with 4-TEC engine, 155 hp. After about 2-1/2 hours on the water the red (!) light starts to flash. The P-code is P0562 - low voltage. I have had the battery (four months old) checked at two locations and it checks out o.k. under load. All fuses are good when I check them with...
