    Hard starting RFI - 787 GTX 2001

Yada, I am really starting to believe, in my case at least, that there are a few small issues that are all contributing. I replaced the coil and had a time at the lake where it was just me and no one else wanting to ride so I was able to do as much testing as I wanted. I proved, through a...

    Hard starting RFI - 787 GTX 2001

Hi all...Well small successes. I have replaced the coil "thanks Nick (Minnetonka4me)" and the ski will now start in the water. It does not fire up right away but will start within 2 tries. It seem snow that I have to feather the throttle to get it to stay running after it fires. this occurs...

    2001 GTX RFI no spark

It turns out that when I inserted my test leads into the pin holes in the MPEM plug (to perform resistance measurements) the test lead probes were slightly larger than the pin on the MPEM and they expanded the socket just enough to not allow proper connection be tween the socket an d the pin. I...

    2001 GTX RFI no spark

I bought a coil and have the exact same issue still, anyone have any thoughts?

    2001 GTX RFI no spark

long story but the last part is that after a compression test (150, 155) and resistance testing all sensors (TPS, CPS, ATS, WTS, APS) I hook everything back up to find NO SPARK. 5 Vdc at ignition coil when I depress start button with no lanyard attached. Primary resistance check of coil shows...

    Xp 650 no spark

Hello.. I am facing similar issues on an 01 787 RFI. I can share some of the diagnostics I have gone through but I am assuming that they may be just different enough to only muddy the waters more for you, let me know if you would like more. I too am looking for a way to test the magneto...

    Spark Plug grounding plate

Lou, it looks lile a plate that has some extra non functional plastic in the oem parts lookup online as well as them maintenance section in th pdf manuals. I was just gioing to cut out a plate and wanted to make sure it is ok just to ground both plug wire to engine.

    Spark Plug grounding plate

I have a 2001 GTX RFI 787, there is no grounding plate to connect the plug wires to when running compression test or needing to crank with out plugs hooked up. I read somewhere that not connecting the wires to a plate can damage the coil. Feedback?

    Sputtering 787 RFI

Thanks...I think  you mentioned everything on my list... what sort of checks did you perform on the check valve and the solenoid?

    Hard starting RFI - 787 GTX 2001

I have stumbled upon that post as well, I like the theory except for the fact that if mine sits for 20 -30 min (enough time to cool down?) it will start in the water. I think this would be real easy to solve with the CanDoo system. I will test primary resistance in my coil though, maybe it is...

    Hard starting RFI - 787 GTX 2001

Cutting back the caps? you mean the spark plug wires? If so I have tried this as well in my pursuit of solving my issue. It didn't help me, though it is certainly a worthwhile step.

    Sputtering 787 RFI

I have a 2001 GTX RFI and it is sputtering between 4000 - 4200 rpm. I just rebuilt the rave valves in an attempt to fix this problem. I can move the sputtering range by adjusting the valves, screw them in the range moves up Any one have any ideas?

    Hard starting RFI - 787 GTX 2001

here is my update....though not really any success to report. I had the rotary valve cover machined to tighten up the tolerance. Unfortunately the result is that the clearance is at the maximum, but within tolerance. I took the ski out tonight on beautiful water and got so brave as to shut...

    Hard starting RFI - 787 GTX 2001

Gheorghe, Keep me posted if you learn anything, as will I. I do have another active thread on this topic at PWC Today .com, some interesting responses mostly favoring the RV clearance. Here is the link http://www.pwctoday.com/showthread.php?t=339678 PM me if the link is not available in this...

    Hard starting RFI - 787 GTX 2001

griz, Thanks again for the reply. the reluctance to go to the shop stems from a few things...local shop's reputation, the 45 mile drive to the "local" shop and the desire to "do it myself" I will definitely look into the link for injectors, thanks for that and I will give the shop a call to...

    Hard starting RFI - 787 GTX 2001

griz, got it.. I understand the fuel delivery from the port versus the air/oil delivery from the the starboard. the oil was added to the tank per mfg recommendation and was only the first tank which was 4-5 tanks ago.

    Battery Tender Jr.

I use the battery tender also, it works great for keeping a good battery fresh between seasons, after reading this I will definitely be looking to add the optimate to the tool box....in the garage

    Hard starting RFI - 787 GTX 2001

griz, thanks for the reply, I did trim wires, forgot to mention, sorry! I am confused what indicates that the injectors are bad, they passed the leak test and seem to spray a nice pattern although I can not verify total flow. I can certainly perform a compression test, would a over tolerance...

    Hard starting RFI - 787 GTX 2001

I am back a season later... This spring I checked fuel pressure and all is within specification. I also pulled injector rail and did the drip test with pressure on the injectors, I literally had zero drips in the allotted time. Yesterday we ran for a few hours. the same symptoms remain. easy...

    Hard starting RFI - 787 GTX 2001

Thanks Tony, I kinda like the theory but why would it start fine out of the water? It does every time all the time. I guess I could pull the rail and let them sit outside of the cylinders and see if they drip? If they do are there any options beside replacing?
