    1996 GTS 587 turns but won't fire

That does seem to be the case. After pulling the fuel lines to the carb, I can eventually get it to fire up and run for something like 10+ seconds, and that's with no fuel being fed in (did not realize it could run for that long without pulling gas into the carb)... As soon as I hook up the...

    1996 GTS 587 turns but won't fire

I've been giving that a try today. I just tried with the plugs back in now, and it's consistently starting off by giving about a second where it sounds like it's trying to fire. Of course, gas still all over the plugs. I guess I should just pull the gas line to the carb for now, with the...

    1996 GTS 587 turns but won't fire

I noticed that the plugs were saturated in gas when pulling. With the plugs out, there's plenty of gas mist being shot out of both cylinders. Could the crankcase be flooded with gas? And if so, is there anything I can do besides leaving the plugs out and giving it time to evaporate? I think...

    1996 GTS 587 turns but won't fire

Thanks all. I got a brand new battery charged up. Still won't turn over, but at least no battery issues... I tried swapping in the old plugs as well, and they do also spark but no firing...

    1996 GTS 587 turns but won't fire

Thanks all. I ran over to autozone to borrow a compression tester. Using a battery pack jumper at the moment as the powersport battery is now toast. Both cylinders are reading identical at 137-138 psi with the throttle wide-open, which is supposedly okay for a 587. I can get a battery on...

    1996 GTS 587 turns but won't fire

I guess I'll just have to get a new battery, even if it's sitting unused for the next 12 months. If the plugs are sparking though, all should be good, correct?

    1996 GTS 587 turns but won't fire

Thanks so much. I'd already jumped it with the car running, whoops. I'll make sure not to do that again. I did as outlined, pulled each plug separately and grounded to the engine plate. I DO see sparking within each gap. So I guess the ignition coil is fine and I can leave the fuse box...

    1996 GTS 587 turns but won't fire

I'm going to take the fuse box up into the front compartment and take a look inside. I'm hoping it's just a blown fuse (does the ignition coil have one?), otherwise it couldn't hurt to order a new ignition coil. I guess I'll be spending some time reading through the manual tonight!

    1996 GTS 587 turns but won't fire

Just jumped the battery with the car, so it's not the battery itself. I also just attached a wire up into the spark plug connector (touching the inner metal sleeve) and brought it to the plug when turning the engine over--no spark was detected. I'll see if I can figure out how to do your...

    1996 GTS 587 turns but won't fire

I could really use some experienced thoughts as I'm short on time. I usually have no trouble starting my '96 GTS after winterizing and a long break. This time (only here 2 weeks), it momentarily fired up, died down within a few seconds and will no longer start. The engine turns over fine and...

1996 Seadoo GTS 587 Engine -- filling in holes

Ah well, then that saves me from trying to figure out alternative repairs. I guess I'll try jbweld and hope for the best. Thanks to all those who provided their input--its been greatly appreciated :)

1996 Seadoo GTS 587 Engine -- filling in holes

Thanks, appreciate the recommendation--I was actually thinking about that since I had some jbweld leftover from another job. It's strong stuff, but I wonder how long it will last. I don't suppose anyone knows exactly what the engine casing is made out of? At some point I'll pass this pwc...

1996 Seadoo GTS 587 Engine -- filling in holes

Thanks, but that looks like it would be a lot of work. I'd much rather fix that damage :) Everything else is fine,

1996 Seadoo GTS 587 Engine -- filling in holes

Hi all, Doing some engine work on a 1996 GTS with a 587 engine--finally got around to removing a few bad bolts which prevented me from getting past the cylinder head. Major corrosion removed, and part of the wall holding the O-ring (pictured) had broken away. Anyone know what the...

    1996 GTS overheating

I put the GTS back together and had it stored today--the buzzer didn't go off, but my temp gauge (placed on top plate) was reading about 195 F after maybe 20 minutes of runtime--that can't be good. I can confirm that some small amount of water was making it out of the cylinderhead pisser in...

    1996 GTS overheating

Took off the exhaust manifold just now, clearly a little crystallized buildup along the insides--but no obstructions--water flows freely. The water exit valve (right-angle) at the bottom of the manifold does spit out water when flowing through the divider. I'm unable to position myself to see...

    1996 GTS overheating

So, straight to the point--my 96 GTS is overheating after only short runs (20-30 minutes). At first I thought the temperature sensor was going bad, I got a replacement used sensor, seemed to test out fine (boiling water test--no continuity even at 210 F), but I'm still getting a continuous...

    Worx Intake Grate installation question

Interesting idea. I'll have to try that with a cheapo set if I ever run into a similar situation. In the end, I found installation info for each grate type on the Worx.au site. This one is for mine: http://www.worx.com.au/files/WR206_Install_Instructions.pdf Turns out my model was originally...

    Worx Intake Grate installation question

Worx Intake Grate installation hardware question I bought a Worx WR206 grate to install on my 96 GTS. It's a perfect fit, but I've got a bit of an issue with the stock grate bolts. With a standard socket, it's impossible to tighten due to the closely-sloping side ridges--the bolt area is...

'96 GTS cranks but won't start

I was about to run those voltage tests on the battery, and the engine fired up with a little coaxing! I left the air silencer off for a few hours, which was the only difference from previous attempts. Maybe some gas evaporated? I measured the battery at 11.6V in resting state, and never got...
