    1997 Sea-Doo GTI Restoration

I have made some progress. I picked up a new steering housing. I just couldn't get the original one loose. For $35 on ebay, well worth it. I'm also almost ready to paint the bottom of the hull. Sanding and more sanding. I applied fairing compound 3 times and I'm hoping that will be all I need...

    1997 Sea-Doo GTI Restoration

I have been spraying the housing with WD40 every day and it is still stuck. I looked on ebay just for giggles, and I found one pretty cheap. I thought they would be more expensive. I ordered it. Hopefully I can get that installed and then paint the bottom this weekend. While that's drying I can...

    1997 Sea-Doo GTI Restoration

I actually got the plastic pieces out of the housing. I then sprayed it down with wd40 to see if I can get the metal to twist in the housing. If I can get the housing off the steering column, then I can clean all of the salt off and it should be usable.

    1997 Sea-Doo GTI Restoration

Progress continued today. I had ordered replacement steering and reverse cables, but they aren't for my model. I didn't see this until I had them out of the seadoo. Ugh. Have to send those back and I ordered the correct ones after seeing what they look like. I thought the steering cable was...

    1997 Sea-Doo GTI Restoration

In case anyone needs this info: I found a company in South Florida that can program your MPEM on 2 stroke Sea-Doos. They are called Palm Beach Watercraft. It was hard to get in touch, but once I did, they were very forthcoming. The only hook is that you have to bring the whole PWC as they can...

    1997 Sea-Doo GTI Restoration

I'm making this thread to keep track of my progress so I know how to put things back together. I have never owned or worked on a Sea-Doo or a 2 stroke. I currently have 2 1997 GTI Sea-Doos. I bought the first one in Key Largo (further known as KLDoo) for $350. Here are the issues it has: The...

    1997 GTI 717 - won't start. General questions

Even if they are both 717s? Where do I get the alignment tool?

    1997 GTI 717 - won't start. General questions

After much pondering, I'll be removing the motor from the second GTI and put it in the first GTI. Everything else on the first GTI is in better shape (steering cable and reverse cable aren't frozen, for example). Any tips on removing the motor? I will be using colored tape to remind me where...

    1997 GTI 717 - won't start. General questions

Good tip. This is a new battery though. I have a second 1997 GTI for parts. Just for giggles, I checked the compression there and it was 150 PSI in each cylinder. Looks like I am going to be using that one. It also cranked over just fine with the same battery. Now I just have to get that one...

    1997 GTI 717 - won't start. General questions

I believe I have the correct key. It does fit loosely though (a common problem with older models from what I've read). I do not get any beeps when connecting the key. For the rebuild for the pistons, is there a kit that is recommended? I understand. I was just wondering if the compression...

    1997 GTI 717 - won't start. General questions

Hi everyone, I just bought a non-running 1997 GTI and it won't start, but it does crank when I short the solenoid. I have never worked on engines, but I think I can figure it out. Here are some general questions I have that I haven't been able to find answers to doing a search. 1. I've seen...

    Are Seadoo hulls silconed together?

Definitely good to know! Thank you!

    Are Seadoo hulls silconed together?

I have 2 1997 GTI 717 Seadoos. One is for parts. I see that the top and bottom hull are riveted together, but were they also siliconed together? One hull has a hole in the top half and the other one has a hole in the bottom half. It would be nice to swap them to have a hull with no holes.

1997 GTI Bombadier Dess Post missing

Hi Everyone, Very new to PWCs in general. I bought a used 1997 GTI Bombadier and it seems that someone broke open the plastic around the handle bars to get to the DESS post and stole it. I have no idea what connector I need or where it plugs into. Is anyone able to point me in the right...
