    Throttle cable sheath broken

My throttle cable outer sheath is frayed at the carburetor end. This cable goes to the oil pump from the carbs. The throttle moves easily and I can see the oil pump arm moving with the throttle. Do I need to fix this? Can I somehow just move that silver housing back or do I need a new cable?

    Engine misaligned?

Had my engine replaced by a shop 2 years ago and I just had my 5-7 year old carbon ring wear out after about 50 hours. Did that wear faster than expected? Gonna tear it down but I don't have an alignment tool. Is there any way to tell from the picture if the shop didn't align my new engine...

    1996 GTX Starter Lag

I'd love some advice on my starter issues with my 1996 GTX. I had an OEM starter which was working well. One day, it just stopped working intermittently. You'd hit the button, no click, no motor, nothing. Do it a couple more times, and it'd start--maybe. I always keep the battery on a...

Steering nut broke--now wants to turn right

The thru hull nut (277 000 052) in my 1996 GTX broke. I got it back to the dock and replaced the nut and now it wants to turn right all the time. I can adjust the end bolt out, which helps a little, but even all the way out, it's still turning right. Did I not pull the steering cable far...

    XPS full synthetic snow oil

I couldn't find (for any XPS oils) an API-TC certification on the XPS lubrication website. My local area is not carrying XPS synthetic pwc oil, but my local mechanic said that full synthetic snow oil is the exact same oil and would work just fine. I looked through the datasheet and see they...

1996 GTX - Bendix on OEM starter is sticking

Main bearing (next to the flywheel) failed on my 1996 GTX. Put a new SBT motor in, but now I've got a problem with the starter. The starter bendix doesn't always retract and sometimes sticks fully extended. I'm assuming that the bearing failure caused the flywheel to put force on the bendix...

Ignition coil corrosion and solenoid replacement

I have a bad solenoid on my 1996 GTX. Starter is occasionally not working when I hit the start stop button. I always get a click when you hit the start button, but no crank 90% of the time. Jumping the solenoid works 100% of the time. So I went to replace it, but it looks like one bolt for...

    Oil Leak in 1996 GTX

Still chasing the oil leak(s) in my 1996 GTX. After I run the ski and let it sit in my garage, it leaks about 1/8 of a cup of oil into the hull. I've chased and fixed the following leaks: Gasket at the bottom of the oil tank (the red plastic fitting is now dry and paper towel shows no oil on...

    1996 GTX - Rectifier failures

My stock rectifier was failed, so I replaced it last August. It just failed again after about 20 hours of operation. I used this part: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00RPN1NFQ/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o07_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 It looks identical to OEM, but the parts inside might be...

    Starter motor bracket

I'm replacing the aftermarket (failed) starter with a rebuilt used OEM starter on my 1996 GTX (787). The used starter came with a circular bracket on it installed on the rear bolts. A picture of the bracket (installed on my starter) is here...

    Navigation lights

Anyone know of any navigation light kits or guides for a sea Doo? My state allows for operation after dark if equipped with the necessary lights.

    Tuning dual carbs

Been riding my 96 GTX and it's running very well after carb rebuild with mikuni. Starts easily, idles well, and runs at 54mph (speedometer) at WOT. However, if I let it idle for more than 30-45 seconds then go WOT, it hesitates (and once has died on me). Both adjusters we're set according to...

High pitched whine at high rpm

My 1996 GTX started making a faint high pitched whine above 6000 RPM. Any idea what it could be? I did just replace the impeller a year ago, but I normally don't drive fast (35mph speed limit) so I wouldn't have heard the problem. If the hub bearings are bad, what symptoms would I experience?

1996 GTX - Very minor cavitation on hard acceleration

When I floor my 1996 GTX from a stop it briefly (.5 seconds) revs to 7000 rpm, then falls to 6200 RPM as it accelerates, rising back as it picks up speed. If I have more weight on the seadoo it stays at 7000 rpm longer. Can't really test max speed due to speed limits on the lake but it hits at...

1996 GTX - Oil Return/Sensor Fitting very loose

I just replaced the grommet at the bottom of the oil tank, and it's very snug and it stopped all the oil leakage from the bottom of the tank. However, I've noticed that the oil return/sensor assembly at the top of the tank (278000478) is extremely loose. It flops around and definitely doesn't...

    1996 GTX won't crank

5 months ago, I did a carb rebuild and replaced the oil tank grommet on my 1996 GTX. Fired it up out of the water and it ran great. Then winterized it with fogging oil. Took it out today, and it had some oil in the bilge from the repair, so I took it to the car wash and gave the interior a...

Best way to get screws out of carbureator

I rebuilt the carburetor in my 1996 GTS, and it went well except for trying to get the internal screws out of the carb. Especially the two large screws were *really* stuck in there. I got a set of JIS screwdrivers, which couldn't even begin to budge them. All they did was damage the screw...

    Oil Leak in 1996 GTX

I have an oil leak on my 1996 GTX. I was planning to track it down, but hadn't gotten to it yet. There's just constantly a small puddle of oil in the bilge of my sea doo, and there's rancid smelling dried up oil residue all over the inside. When I was replacing the oil filter, the oil line...

Can't get pump back in 96 GTX with Neoprene seal

I took my pump out and replaced both the wear ring and impeller, because both were bad in my 1996 GTX. I used the delrin wear ring from osd marine here: OSD Sea Doo DELRIN WEAR RING - 2 STROKE 140mm [OSD2332] - $36.99 I also bought a neoprene seal from them. I installed the wear ring with the...

Rave Valve Clearance with rebuilt engine

I have a 1996 GTX (787) and I replaced the Rave valves 3 weeks ago because one of the valves cracked (I noticed this when I cleaned it). The new valves are OEM slotted, the old valves were non-slotted. I've run the seadoo the last couple weekends (3-4 hours each weekend). The Seadoo is...
