    Deleting Speedometer

I'm going to look around and see if I can adapt it using plugs but if not I'll just use some decent waterproof connectors.

    Deleting Speedometer

The speedometer on my 2004 GTI LE RFI is broke. My chart plotter provides accurate GPS speed so I don't need it or want to replace it. In its place I purchased a gauge style bluetooth am/fm radio to fit in its spot. I know the Info Center gauge gets its power from the speedometers purple and...

    Value of 97 GTI

Just give it to him. Like you said, it will cost quite a bit to fix. You're lucky someone is interested in it after sitting for 15 years.

    Thoughts on Cylinder Head condition

Just a follow-up. Prior to dismantling I got 150 psi on both cylinders. After cleaning and replacing cylinder cover, o-rings compression increased to over 160 psi. Hopefully that is a good sign.

    Thoughts on Cylinder Head condition

Thanks Gene. I agree about the loctite on the bolts. I will use marine grease instead. I'll just recheck the torque on the bolts once in a while. Thanks for the help and suggestions. If you think of anything else...fire away. I'll probably finish putting it all back together tomorrow afternoon. Alan

    Thoughts on Cylinder Head condition

The combustion chambers look like new. No pitting and completely smooth. There was a little carbon but it cleaned right off. Thanks for the quick reply. The before pictures were a little scary. It looked like water was getting past the o-rings. I've rebuilt car and motorcycle engines and never...

    Thoughts on Cylinder Head condition

The cylinder head cover on my 2004 GTI LE RFI had some bubbling on it. So I purchased a replacement. I also purchased the o-ring/gasket set for the 787 engine from OSD. After removing the cover I saw this... Looks like it has never been removed. The ski has 80 hours on it. I was able to clean...

    Seadoo Snap in Fenders (Orange)

I thought about putting the brackets on my 2004 GTI. You have to drill 3 holes for each bracket and one of them is 1/2 inch large. These go through the lip of the hull. I then think the 1/2" piece on the bracket would stick out below the lip. If the other bracket would work, it would be a...

The package says RFI 787 is yours carbureted? Maybe that's the difference.

    Oil Seal Orientation

I recently rebuilt the jet pump and found a discrepancy between the shop manual (2004 GTI LE RFI) and YouTube videos and even a couple of posts in this forum. The manual clearly states the spring side of the oil seal should face out towards the impeller. It also shows a picture of the spring...

    Bent ground electrode

Wow...glad you figured it out. That could of been a real stumper and sent you down a deep rabbit hole. Awesome you can trace the hoses and figure it out. I am going to replace my cylinder head cover with a newly painted one. The original has corrosion growing (bubbling) on it. Just superficial...

Impeller shaft wear and Oil Seal

I bought the XPS Jet Pump Oil for it. So you put the small Allen wrench through the fill hole? And the long tab is facing that side? With the flat side of the Anti-Rattle facing the hole? I need to look at the Shop Manual for a visual. It's a weird setup because the spring is sideways in the...

Impeller shaft wear and Oil Seal

Okay, thank you. I went ahead and ordered a rebuild kit and impeller shaft from OSD. I don't think anything has been replaced since 2004. Cheap insurance. The parts all look worn and some wear marks. I appreciate your help. Alan

Impeller shaft wear and Oil Seal

Was the first picture the side that you push out the bearings and this is the side with the Oil Seal that they would come out of?

Impeller shaft wear and Oil Seal

Just dismantled the Jet Pump and have at least 3 questions. 1. When I pulled the impeller off, I did not see an Oil Seal under the thrust bearing/washer. It looked like this. Is that correct? Does that unscrew. I thought there would be an Oil Seal with a rubber seal around the shaft. Question...

    Bent ground electrode

I'm no expert but are you using the correct spark plug? Size/length/crush washer, etc.? It sounds like the top of the piston is hitting the plug.
