2001 RX Reboot Project – MPEM related question

I'm sure they do test them. But they didn't test with your reed cages installed. Any air leak past the carbs will cause a lean condition.

2001 RX Reboot Project – MPEM related question

Hopefully you are using OEM mikuni kits and replace all soft parts with a new needle & seat. Not trying to be an ass, I've built a lot of these and the reed cages do leak sometimes. You won't know unless you pressure test.

2001 RX Reboot Project – MPEM related question

Lucky for you they have a no fault warranty. If it blows up in less than one season, it's because you cut corners and didn't follow the correct procedures in the service manual. Better get them carbs and fuel system right too! Can't believe you are just cleaning them and reusing the old...

2001 RX Reboot Project – MPEM related question

Smh... You are just asking for this to blow up and you'll be doing this all over again. I don't think you understand how these engines work if you are skipping a pressure test.

2001 RX Reboot Project – MPEM related question

No. Pressure test the engine block for air leaks. Procedure is in the service manual and is critical that's it's performed.

2001 RX Reboot Project – MPEM related question

Make sure you pressure test this motor after you reassemble it. Those reed cages will leak sometimes and you'll run lean.

😬 No offense, but that comment alone tells you should return the ski to stock and set the carbs to factory spec.

    Air In Oil Line

Bleed the pump and then prime the pump. The procedure is in the service manual which is free online.

    1996 GTX with 400 hours?

Post a picture of the engine and we might be able to tell. If it is the original engine, I would factor in the cost of a rebuild or reman when purchasing.

2001 RX Reboot Project – MPEM related question

I didn't look back through this thread but if you haven't already, make sure you rebuild your entire fuel system before starting that new engine. Dont run the open FA unless you are comfortable tuning and dialing in your carbs as well.

1994 Sea Doo SPI - Thoughts?

Depending on brand and condition, the double trailer may be worth $1K+ so that could be a great deal. Like mikidymac said, make sure you water test any ski before buying.

2001 RX Reboot Project – MPEM related question

On second thought, for how you are using this ski, I think I would recommend returning it back to 100% stock and go from there.

1994 Sea Doo SPI - Thoughts?

I would go for a 96 XP, 97-99 SPX, 96 GTX (787 motor), 97+ GTX (951 motor), or a 98 + XP Limited. GSX Limited and RX were popular skis of the time as well.

2001 RX Reboot Project – MPEM related question

Carb bolts are 6mm. Remove the 4 6mm bolts and the carbs will drop. Then you can easily get to the nut on the exhaust manifold. The SS collar on the driveshaft will slide backwards but cant slide forwards because of the C clip or oring on driveshaft. You need the pump on the ski to keep the...

2001 RX Reboot Project – MPEM related question

That was my first thought without seeing a photo of it. If so, air was getting into the fuel line and you definitely ran lean.

1994 Sea Doo SPI - Thoughts?

Good reliable ski if it has been taken care of. I wouldn't call it a desirable model though. Probably worth $1500 with a trailer in good running condition. It is almost 30 years old so keep that in mind and be prepared to fix things as they break.
