98 XP Limited solenoid click but no start

Yes, should be able to hand crank from that location with the spark plugs out. Pulling the jet pump and driveshaft out the back and trying again will confirm where the seizure is.

GTI LE missing at above 1/2 throttle

Hello, Took the 02 GTI 717 out on the river today after a new top end, rotary valve, and carb clean. Running oil injection and 50/1 premix in the tank for the break-in. Idles perfect, starts well, and has good pickup from low speed. Anything over half throttle stutters though. Can only do about...

    Engine knock

Some people remove the oil pump and run pre-mix gas. If you do that, make sure to keep the tank full and the lines to the rotary gear in the bottom end connected as that still needs lubrication. Testing it is simple as well, you’ll have it off anyway to spilt the cases, so you can just use a...

    Engine knock

Definitely a bad connecting rod bearing. You got lucky the rod breaking didn’t cause cylinder damage. I would consider doing pistons and rings since they will be out anyway. 120 on the cylinder without damage isn’t great and you may find yourself back in there in not too much time. Just check...

    02 GTI Carb settings

Hello All, Pulled apart the Carb on my 02 GTI 717 (Single Carb w/accel pump) for a quick cleaning. looked like someone had been in there before, so no idea if I can trust where it was set. High speed screw was all the way seated (0 turns) and plastic restrictor cap was on. That didn’t seem...

    Carbon Seal Chattering

Ok, battery is a brand new agm and the starter solenoid is new. Not sure if the previous owner did anything with the starter. Attached are pictures of the cylinders. There is a groove and crack in the pto cylinder. New ones are in order from sbt, so I will see what happens when I install them.

1998 Sportster 1800 Carb Issue - Likely Diaphragm Replacement?

Interesting. Are your engines dual or single carb? To clarify, the engine is off, does it only dump fuel into the intake when advancing the throttle, or does it continue if you hold it steady, at half, full throttle etc. Too much fuel can definitely foul plugs. A common failure point in...

Sounds good. My ski is stock, so I should be good to go. Thanks for the help.

1998 Sportster 1800 Carb Issue - Likely Diaphragm Replacement?

It seems you are dead on. When advancing the throttle the accelerator pump should dump a steady stream of fuel into the carb throat, as you saw on your starboard motor. Will probably need a carb rebuild, but you can check the adjustment of the accelerator pump linkage first to make sure the...

    Cylinder resleeving options

Awesome, I had read about some quality control concerns with SBT cylinders. Should that be a worry? Hopefully someone reading the thread has tried them and knows.

    Cylinder resleeving options

Hello and good evening! 2002 Gti Le 720 I bought as “ran when parked”. Ran on trailer but wouldn’t start in the water, quick compression test showed 80psi on the PTO cylinder. I Stopped right there and pulled the cylinders off. Low and behold, The previous owner bored out .050in. over Found...

Checked compression. Definitely low at 80 psi . Looks like a top end.

    Carbon Seal Chattering

Good news. Thanks for the advice. I got impatient and put the driveshaft back in the ski with the old carbon seal parts as they didn’t look too bad. Carbon seal functions as it should and didn’t leak a drop when I had it in the water tonight. My suspicion is one of the o-rings was rolled or...

    Carbon Seal Chattering

I will do that. Are there any good aftermarket carbon seal kits out there, or is oem the only recommendation?

    Carbon Seal Chattering

I apologize for the confusion. The carbon ring is clamped to the boot and doesn’t move. I believe it’s called the seal hat? That is staying stationary along with the carbon ring instead of spinning with the driveshaft.

    Carbon Seal Chattering

Hello, new to PWCs, so forgive my lack of knowledge. The carbon seal on my 2002 GTI 720cc was chattering when I ran it on the trailer. (20 seconds or less at a time). When it was running, the seal hat, or wear ring was staying stationary with the carbon ring instead of turning with the...
