1998 XP Limited only 6000 RPM

You could try putting the stock fuel screen back in. The automotive filter might be restrictive, especially if a little water or condensation gets in the fuel. If you're hearing a rattle in the drivetrain while the ski is in the water, it could be the coupler dampers. If you see red...

1997.5 gsx limited bad piston after break in

I put in a rebuilt 951 a several years ago in my XP, and it started burning the MAG piston. I thought I checked everything several times over and ended up doing the top end a few times. It turned out to be the head. Although the squish was ok, the cc's were not. I finally ordered a graduated...

    Stripped allen socket

I guess it would act like a penetrant or lubricant. Maybe the sizzling creates pressure. I'm not sure. I just know I had a stuck fastener and after using it the fastener came out. I had the manifold off, so gravity helped it go down into the threads. It's worth trying if the regular methods...

    Stripped allen socket

I had to drill an exhaust manifold stud that was snapped. Only a cobalt bit would cut into the stainless steel. I went through a whole package of regular bits and they dulled out in seconds. The cobalt bit drilled right into it and even made long spiral shavings. I was then able to get it with...

Well I pushed it as far as I could

That's the way to stretch the season to the max! I never would have thought of the throttle freezing up.

Knock sensor on 951 carbureted engine

Yeah, I would like to have a set up with dual EGT/CHT gauges. It would take some considerable time though to pull & tap the exhaust manifold, install them and then fabricate a custom instrument bezel or storage compartment lid to mount them. I've been thinking of ways to do it and still have it...

Knock sensor on 951 carbureted engine

Has anyone installed a knock sensor and indicator on a carbureted engine? I was looking at a Knocklink G4 and wanted to know if anyone has tried it or something similar.

    Different variations of 951 heads

Any body have any input on these different heads for the 951? One has a two angle squish band with the number 923920 stamped inside the water jacket, and the other has a single angle with the number 923580 stamped in it. I had a cylinder head (not pictured) with the 923580 number that was...

    Fuel selector switch

If it feels strange when you turn it, the plastic knob could be stripped. Take off the knob and inspect the back of it.

    Engine overheating

With these batteries, you have to charge them on the 2 amp charge setting. If you use the 10 amp setting or the start setting, it drastically reduces the lifetime of the battery. I ignored that piece of info for many seasons and always ended up replacing my batteries every year. Since switching...

    Engine overheating

Hopefully the engine is not damaged, but you'll have to check compression as the next step

    Engine overheating

If there is no water in the cylinders, the engine turns over smoothly, and there is compression... try new spark plugs. A fouled plug or plugs can make it act the way you described.

    Engine overheating

On my 98' there is a small hex screw on top of the PTO cover and two nuts and washers on the rear face of the PTO cover. Definately don't use a pipe wrench on the driveshaft. The nicks caused by the pipe wrench can damage your seal if you ever have to remove the driveshaft, which sooner or later...

    Engine overheating

Water shooting out the exhaust is normal when you pull the ski out of the water and put it on the trailer. In fact, every time you trailer it, you're supposed to start the engine and give it a couple short revs to blow the excess water out of the muffler. That goes for after you flush it on the...

97 gtx 780 wont start until I pour gas into carbs.

Mine would work intermittently for years. The two chirps wouldn't always work, but the ski still ran fine. I thought maybe dess post, MPEM, wiring connections... It was just the beeper. If anything, its nice to hear the two beeps so you know that part of the circuit is working.

    Egt sensors on 951

So, I thought I'd follow up... The lower set of pistons are the first ones I took out. The top ones are the second set. After upping the jet sizes and going to an 80 gram spring, the pistons didn't look as dry anymore. The beginning of the melt through on the second set happened before the...

    Engine overheating

The drain I'm refering to as the block drain doesnt come out inside the pump. It comes out right below where the steering cable comes out.

    Engine overheating

Yes, the seat is the sensor. Unscrew it. Then see if water comes out while the engine runs on the hose.

    Engine overheating

Did you run the engine with the temp sensor removed while the boat was in the water? Or did you just unplug the temp sensor so it wouldnt beep? If you did run the engine while in the water with the temp sensor removed, and no water came out the hole, then that would mean the elbow or the part of...
