Hey guys.....I was just wondering what the round about top speed would be for my "new to me" Sportster. It is the Sportster 1800. Usually when I have it WOT I am too busy paying attention to whats around me rather than the speedo.

I just got one a month ago. Thought it was a 98 but it seems to be a 99.

I can get it up to about 45 on the smooth part of the river here (upstream). I dont go as fast downstream cause that is towards the dam ;)

Wherabouts in PA are you running your Doo?

'99 Sportster tach connection

Guys, I need the tach pinout. With clip up, two rows of three pins. I need the color codeing and location orientation. I really
appreciate any help. I am wanting to wire the tach to a single engine 720. ('96 SPX).

Heres pic of Sportster tach back:

Thanks if you can help! Bill

It should be in the shop manual Bill - you're a premium member, so you cna get to those. I recently went through this type of thing with my 98 Sportster 1800 speedo. Wires/Colors are in the wiring diagram.

43 is the best speed I've seen in my boat!

It is not in the manual, what it shows is W43,W46,W47,W49. All going to a tach. Thats it, I looked, when to the dealer who was no help, but
would sell me a complete sportster wire harness, NO thanks.
How many wires go into your tach, and what is the orientation? Surely someone has the 6 pin pig-tail?
Tach has 6-pins in its rectangular, and a brass post in tach center.

Thanks anyhow!
