    1994 XP 657

I don't know much at all about the pre 1996 skis but I have gray boxes complete. I have a couple of MPEMs I use for testing that are 1996 SPI and those are compatible with other skis. Not sure if the MPEM timing is different on the 657X. What fried my MPEM on my 1996 SPI was the rectifer...

1997 GTX off season rebuild start.

Sometimes it is cheaper to buy and old ski. LOL That's why I have so many in the yard. LOL

    TAS - Testing

Did you download a repair manual? I don't work on the 4-stroke skis but they are essentially the same just more electronics. On the earlier skis you remove the pin connector (large one) and go to the numbered locations to connect your probes. Some sensors also have a voltage value in addition...

1997 GTX off season rebuild start.

I got an azzload of parts over here. LOL I used to order 5 of everything for spares. Yea I agree on the OEM hoses they lasted a long long time.

1997 GTX off season rebuild start.

Build it and run it. There is no carb tuning just proper set up and testing using the right parts (Read the Carb Thread and follow it). I've have personally had the oil lines I purchased fall to pieces in a matter of a couple of months, vendors very optimistic as to the quality of the crap...

Open high speed screw just a little?

I've some engines with damaged rings and scoured cylinders with engines at 130-135 psi compression. I don't want pieces parts ending up in the crank bearings. A happy top end is a happy engine. :D

    Carbed fuel system hose routing

Fuel hose Connections This may help a bit. See post #2 in the thread.

Open high speed screw just a little?

Not sure about this particular ski but a few carb skis recommend a PTO high speed adjuster setting greater than "lightly closed." With 130psi and a good compression gauge I'd expect to see some obvious damage to the piston on cylinder walls. You're down 20psi from new compression numbers. I'm...

    What skis to Restore??

I'll give you a vote. :) That ski with all the performance is not going to be an easy build. I'm sure it will take some tuning but I do have the carbs and all the parts that were on there so it might not be the monster I make it out to be.

    Hull Identification Number Removed

I'm asking because I've seen a ski with a big silver registration sticker on the back. It wasn't pretty. I'm trying to avoid this for him if it is possible.

    What skis to Restore??

I'm gonna take a picture of the 97' hull with crap growing all over it. :D You're gonna make me build that thing.

    Hull Identification Number Removed

A friend got his ski painted and they removed the hull identification numbers on the skis. I guess it was too difficult to paint around them. Any ideas on how to get some replacements? Skis are registered.

    What skis to Restore??

Man that one is probably the one I don't want to do. I have about $2k or more in go fast stuff for that ski. I'm including the mild Miller built race engine. It has buckshot carbs and intake, factory pipe with the solenoids, that jet pump nozzle everyone wants to buy finger throttle and all...

    True Impeller Size?

Yes indeed. With the carbs as long as they are clean and the nozzles in the throat are spraying strong. I've only replaced one carb having restored about 20 jet skis. LOL

    True Impeller Size?

Nope, no new impellers. How is the performance? Top speed? Out of the hole? As @RockyImminence stated (1mm) clearance is fine. I'd have to have a pretty large gap and a performance issue and I'd never buy new anything. LOL Fix the old stuff. Good Luck !!

    What skis to Restore??

Boy O Boy I got so many skis in the yard and I'm about to thin them out. I have a few that I want to restore just to ride them. I painted my 2000RX and that ski looks terrific so my next skis are gonna get painted and new graphics. I enjoy restoring more than riding. I want another RX - I...

    2-Stroke Sea-Doo PWC — Who’s Still Riding Them?

2-strokes much more simple and cheaper to repair and operate. You just have to be mechanically inclined. I'm not a boater so I don't like big jet skis. My favorite all around hull is the 1996-2002 GTX with the 787 engine. Carburetors are probably a preference for many but fuel injection is...
