1996 XP 787 Carb Adjustments Before Break In?

Purchased a 96 XP that ended up needing a whole engine swap (rotary valve and top end blown unsurprisingly due to the purchase price) Bought an engine that has a new WSM top end (the whole kit). It’s in now. I cleaned and rebuilt the carbs and did the fuel lines and I am in the process of...

Much Cavitation and 10 mph top speed loss

New wear ring helped with cavitation. Now it’s back to not sounding right. only does 44 mph again. (gps). Believe it was spark issue. changed plugs wires and coil. still not sounding right and even hitting close to WOT. 6000 rpm max currently.

Much Cavitation and 10 mph top speed loss

Water test update! Between “fixing” the impeller and putting the missing membrane in the fuel pump in the carb, Getting 6610 WOT rpms. 48 mph gps. so much better than before! Think i’m dealing with the need for a wear ring and impeller at the moment still cavitates like a mofo can’t give it...

    1996 GSX won’t start.

strange. all i know is when that was disconnected i stopped getting any feedback at all from the solenoid or starter is my reasoning for that being tied to the start stop

    97 GSX (787) no start

with all the vibration and jostling on a jet ski, new coil is probably the best route. any fix you do might just rattle off or move and leave u stranded

    1996 GSX won’t start.

Does that reading correspond with when you press the start stop?

    1996 GSX won’t start.

Not sure, I didn’t need to do any further testing with mine. From a narrowing down standpoint tho, if you can somehow determine if there is a signal coming down those wires to the solenoid, then you know there’s a problem either with the solenoid or some grounds or connections. If there isn’t a...

    Help!!

I have always seen the battery vent lines be way thinner than that. and also why would it have an elbow? that looks like a water line to me. It seems like it’s going into that plastic exhaust resonator isn’t it? it’s also possible we are looking at different things or I haven’t worked much with...

    1996 GSX won’t start.

The two wire plug that plugs into the base of the solenoid, are those connections good and clean? that is what sends the start/stop signal I found when I was diagnosing mine.

    1996 GTX Engine trouble

Great news! Just reiterating in the starting fluid point, the starting fluid dries up the cylinder walls of oil so not a good idea to run it on that unless u want a blown top end

Function of Rubber membrane before the fuel Pump

Hi all! I was rebuilding my carbs and realized that the previous owner did not put the rubber membrane on before he put the fuel pump block. The ski was exhibiting the symptoms of slow to get to WOT and WOT was at only 6400 rpm and 42 mph. Would this be the reason to blame? I didn’t see much...

Has anyone experienced a sudden nose dive.

Definitely sounds like reverse bucket woes!

    2001 XP no start

Is it a buzzing that is repeated or one click? I just had a 787 gtx with the problem that the starter shorted out due to an insulation piece inside the starter breaking. This caused a buzzing at the solenoid every time I pressed the start button.

Much Cavitation and 10 mph top speed loss

That’s good to hear that was probably it Because I don’t know what else it would be has. Since I have the carbs off gonna rebuild those. I’m gonna put the pump back on with that new shaft and look at the carbs and I’ll update the thread when I water test again next week! Thank you

Much Cavitation and 10 mph top speed loss

i checked the impeller it’s the correct one for the ski. The only thing i noticed were the threads on the shaft were screwed up towards the end. i’m thinking maybe the PO didn’t put it on enough as a result. i used a shaft i had laying around from an extra pump (same type) and below is the...

Much Cavitation and 10 mph top speed loss

at a loss. thought maybe he forgot the thrust washer, but it’s all here, shaft doesn’t look too bad either. bearings are great. it had no water in it. all oil. very confused. wear ring looks pretty good if u ask me too

Much Cavitation and 10 mph top speed loss

Yea definitely seems high. Seems to have the normal amount of play. Maybe less than 1/8 of an inch of play. did PO put the pump together wrong perhaps? Im pulling the carbs off as well. Thinking I might swap the pump for the one on my functioning 97 GTX just to see. Although that’s many trips to...

Much Cavitation and 10 mph top speed loss

Is it me or does the impeller look like it’s up too high? not sitting in the wear ring enough. what could cause that? Thinking maybe yea carb problem. it starts so nicely without any choke tho. obv that’s different than running it well
